What dose of melatonin is safe to take?

I Suffer from insomnia, both my primary care physician, as well as my psychiatrist, recommended me to try melatonin, they argued that it is a natural substance, in contrast to nitrazepam, and similar drugs.
Melatonin is available in Poland without a prescription.
I take one pill 5 mg, but I wonder if the 5 mg dose is big enough for my body, I have almost 140 kg of weight.

asking an online forum is not wise. Ask your doctor this question please.

I took Melatonin (Circadin 2mg daily) for a couple of months. I was prescribed it for insomnia / sleep rhythm but it ended up causing the opposite problem; I could hardly stay awake. Way more powerful than Temazepam or Zopiclone, for example. I could easily have slept 24/7. It also made my depression much worse. So I think there are some significant risks if, like me, you're super sensitive to it.
