My skin all over my body is getting pretty dry with this winter weather lately. I talked to my doc who prescribed a cream which is helping some but I'm wondering if there's any oral things I can take that might help too. The only stuff I found about oral things is antihistamines to help with the itching & I already take one & one thing said Prednisone is rarely prescribed for dry skin but it didn't mention what or why it would help with it. Does anyone have any ideas on why it may help or any other oral meds or supplements that may help with the drying out or itching?

I have eczema. I just had a severe outbreak and my doctor put me on benadryl and prednisone temporarily. Prednisone helps relieve the inflammation when your skin gets irritated. That is why it is prescribed sometimes.

The only thing I can think of orally that could help with dry skin is drinking plenty of water. If you drink more water, you'll be less likely to get dehydrated.

other things that help are to use a mild soap like dove and to use warm, never hot and drying, water when you shower. then pat, don't rub, dry. moisturize immediately, preferably with a high oil moisturizer.

Consider fish oil. Quality makes all the difference. Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega is one of the best choices. There's also a version with vitamin D3 mixed in, which, who knows, could also help this issue.
