I am in the US and am employed. I do not have insurance. The healthcare offered under "Obamacare" is oppressively expensive- even with the subsidy. I cannot afford to straight cash pay for medical services.

I have had a declining health state for the last 5 or so years. I have reason to suspect I may have a significant health issue(s) based on my progression of symptoms, family history, and poor health choices for my first 30 years of life.

I've twice gone to the ER, and got sent right home with no real help. One time they told me I had a "slightly" enlarged heart, the other I sensed there was something they were not telling me because I did not have insurance and they are not obligated to diagnose or treat an illness unless you are in immediate, life threatening danger.

Can anyone maybe suggest a course of action to seek a diagnosis? My primary fear is some heart-related condition, or possibly diabetes, or perhaps even worse. I really only seek a diagnosis as I am an advocate of natural cures (mostly) and would try that first anyways. To me our medical industry is useful for diagnosing with all their technology, and it's not designed to cure/remedy illness at all.

But are there any organizations that can help me figure this out? Would perhaps first seeking a psych diagnosis (I have none) grant me access to some kind of social workers or someone that can help me sort this out?

Ive tried calling a few local places (Im in central NJ) that said they offer sliding scale services, but evidently me and my wife make too much, which seems inconceivable based on our cost of living. I am at a loss and my state is getting quite bad. Do I have to just wait until I drop and hope I survive?

Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I wish I had some help or advice to offer. My only potentially useful thought is to perhaps consider reporting this in the general forum or members only forum where it will get more views & hopefully someone with the knowledge you need will see it.

Very best wishes.

I assume that simply getting insurance isn't an option? that would be the easiest and also cover expences for modern treatments should the natural way be insufficient.

I must say the the US does a very poor job maintaining the health of their citizens, considering it's a first world country, but that is another discussion.

Without insurance and with doctors not being obliged to diagnose, there is little you can do, except for going to a free clinic and hiding the fact that you earn "too much" to go there

Well no, because as I said, 'Obamacare' is extremely expensive, even thought it was passed through the 'Affordable Care Act'. My employer offers insurance that is the same exact thing.

Currently I'd have to pay about 350 a month with a 10K deductible. At that rate I may as well not even have insurance. You are right America is f*cked. Too bad lot of it's people are blinded by patriotic propaganda about being "the best country in the world" from a populace who mostly has never been anywhere else. It's all about money, money, money. The one time I went to the ER I looked at the bill. They charged me literally 50 bucks for two asprin. There are prescription meds that cost people 300-400 a month for one prescription while the pills cost pennies each to make. It's disgraceful.

I know, there is no solution for me short of coming into money somehow. This will not happen
