Just got a flush of curiousity back up seeing another related thread.

Have any of you tried the nootropic angle for functioning issues: ie. pira/oxy/anaracetam, hydergine, pyritinol, idebenone, or picamilon?j I remember having a serious try at all of these back between 22 and 24, the only trouble was I noticed that nearly all upside I got from most of these was from stimulant factors, even out to a few years after I had a friend who gave me some aneracetam he was using and I ended up with a heavy feeling in my chest - seemed to have built a permanent reverse-tolerance to the stuff.

Anything any of you have tried that perhaps had a subtle but stable effect if taken daily in a positive mood-neutral sense? Just curious because I don't want to necessarily fall out of the loop completely and I do sometimes wonder if there's at least something that washes well in enhancing functionality with AS.

L-theanine, in conjunction with caffeine, supposedly has nootropic effects. L-theanine and caffeine are both found in tea.

I've tried concentrated tea drinking, it seems to have some effects (but not long-lasting*), although how much of said effects are purely placebo I cannot say (I also don't have sufficient research background or journal access to intensively analyze the research methods in said "Biological Psychology" article).

*And by "long-lasting" I generally mean that the same effect doesn't last under the same conditions for more than 4 days, based on my very anecdotal evidence.

i have in the past used piracetam most days for maybe 6 weeks. I would take 1 gram of dmae (choline) with i think a little over 0.5 grams piracetam. I like my executive functioning was a lot better, iwas more alert, less anxiety.rarely feeling overwhelmed.

i feel like it has made a lasting change for the better (psychologically) i don't know if it is bad otherwise but there is no evidence yet of problems.

i read somewhere else that perhaps autistics would have neural growth in a certain region after regular use. sorry very vague i can't remember the source. There are papers showing clinical use of piracetam alongside risperidone. i think they found it to be "effective" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17929164

i'd be hesitant to use again much. when i did use it i had low doses. my main concern would be negative feedback and a sort of withdrawl (i've read of someone experiencing high anxiety on cesation) mostly because i don't feel i need it so why risk any associated problems. It definitely benefited me big time though and i am really glad i used it for a period

i used just DMAE (choline) for a while and thought that helped too but i cannot say what worked and what was placebo

With approximately 500 mg pramiracetam (smartpowders) and 2400 mg lecithin (if a scale is lacking know that according to the supplement facts on the back of the container 1/4 teaspoon is 620 mg). It seemed to make me clearheaded (less ocd type symptoms) and less emotional. I will probably experiment further with these at some point.

I tried two & they had no effect at all. I would of been better off taking a tictack cuz a ticktack would at least freshen my breath.
