Any surfers here?
I live in England, not exactly known for it's surf but I've decided I really want to have a go at surfing. I'm currently trying to get over some shoulder issues but I'm aiming to get over them enough to have my first go this spring/summer.
I've done my research and there's a surf school about half an hour away from where I live and they do small group lessons for a couple of hours. I at least want to have a go and depending how it goes, you can then hire boards at a fairly reasonable price, which would be my only viable option until I could one, afford my own board, two, be able to transport it somehow and three, convince my parent's that my latest interest is one worth investing in
It will be a big challenge but I've got a friend who will come along with me for support so hopefully that will make it a bit easier.
In preparation (but partly because I like doing things like this) I've already made a DIY Indo board (nose to tail) and am in the process of planning a DIY Goof board (more rail to rail), alongside my usual routines of home gym exercises. I've also been watching a lot of surf videos on Youtube, kind of studying them and watching for fun but I also just bought the British surf dvd 'The Endless Winter'. I'm hoping to watch it over the next couple of days but I've seen the trailers and it looks cool.
Anyway, I just hope I can get my bloody shoulders sorted and get myself in the water!

Been surfing since i was six, and live by one of the best breaks in the world, i had none surfer friends make jabs at me when i was younger, but some i managed to get out in the surf, now some of those are on the competition circuit! catching the white water is great, but once you catch your first line you will be hooked for life! I started as standup and at 14 tried Bodyboarding and have been ever sinc.... I love the water!! !!
Ah man you're lucky. I've been pretty down about my shoulder rehab for a while but a good session with the osteopath today. I've had 4 sessions with him already but all a waste of time as I was unable to communicate anything very well. My mum came for support today though, so a more positive session and renewing my efforts and motivation to get it better! I miss the water and I proper into wanting to try surfing!
