It sounds like some sort of gritty crunching or cracking. I'm scared my brain isb teraing up or some s**t. Am I gonna die? Just the image of blood running free in my skull triggers me...

Where on your head? What movements bring it on?

On the middle back, close to the neck I think. It happens when I turn my head or sometimes when I lay down quickly.

The sound is called "crepitus". It's from where we get the word "decrepit", roughly meaning "old and falling apart".

I hear noises from my neck if I try to move my head after keeping it in one position for too long. Doc says it's normal - but that's my doctor saying that about me.

You should consult your own doctor.

It may or may not be a problem depending on your age and whether or not you have injured yourself.

I never had any crepitus until I became ill. Now I have it in ligaments, tendons, and joints. It is associated with the inflammation in my body. When my illness flares up it becomes worse.

For some people it's totally normal. It's more common in older people. In your neck it could be caused by stiffness from muscle tension or inflammation. If it's not normal for you, I wouldn't ignore it. If it continues you may want to mention it to your doctor to be safe.

I have heard some cracking sounds too since several months ago, at my neck, joints, and some other places. It's better to just go to doctors. They know better than us.

Then I was already decrepit at fifteen, too.

A noise like that coming from any body part that is a moving joint, such as your neck vertebrae moving around, is very often caused by gases of your synovial fluids popping within the joint, and is nothing to worry about. It sounds bizarre but do a search on it, there's lots of info, such as this: Synovial fluids and gases

It's hard to say what it could be because the sounds you describe could be normal. Necks and joints do pop from time to time. It could be something, it could be nothing. Not to scare you, but please get it checked out. I've had a lot of popping/clicking in my joint since I was a teenager (I used to purposely gross people out with these sounds for my own amusement) and five years ago new grinding sounds started at the base of my neck. This has led into a lot of physical issues and now I must go to a specialist. Make a visit to the Dr. and before you go make note of any issues you may have with range of motion, headaches, nausea, dizziness or stiffness. Blood tests are useful in these cases because they can detect inflammation and possible joint disease. Better to get it check out and be safe.

I love all the creaks, cracks, pops and crunches my body makes. I am definitely not decrepit though. It just seems as though my body is built in a way in which things go pop all the time.
