I'm talking about the more common ones that doctors prescribe for patients, and over the counter ones. Not morphine or anything like that.

I've never had pain medication except a few times when I was prescribed them by a doctor after a procedure. I felt it didn't make any difference.

Does it work for you?

I get some help from aspirin and Ibuprofin, but not from Tylenol, or the other over the counter pain meds. I had to use Percoset and Oxycontin, once for post-surgery pain, and the other time for shingles pain, but neither one did a thing for my pain. All they did was make me groggy, dizzy, and unsteady on my feet. They also made me more prone to being emotionally upset. I stopped using them as soon as I could stand to be awake with the pain without them to put me to sleep. I found that when I took double doses of the turmeric capsules I was taking, that I got a little more pain relief than the aspirin was providing me. I have two bad knees, which are getting worse as I get older, so they give me a lot of trouble. I am thinking of upping the turmeric dosage even more. I recently bought a tens unit to try on my bad knees, but it really doesn't seem to be helping. All it does on the higher setting is to make my muscles twitch, and cause a sort of buzzy feeling in the knee, but it doesn't do anything for the pain. Guess I wasted $30, but the tens unit I bought had good reviews online. Must have been fake reviews. :( :x

If I knew of something safe that really worked well for pain relief, I'd tell you.

I've always responded quickly to over the counter paracetamol and ibuprofen, but nowadays try to stay away from the latter as it can sometimes give me chest pains, I only use it for sports injuries, now.

They help me about as much as they help anyone else but the over the counter stuff doesn't help much with certain types of pain. I haven't been on a whole lot thou. I mostly just take Tylenol, Aspirin or Aleve. Advil is hard on my stomach. I took Oxycodone & Tylenol for a couple weeks after having surgery on my nose(the inside was alittle crooked) & I could of taken two Oxy's but I only needed to take one. I took Darvocet for a couple weeks at least 10 years ago for hip pain & it helped.

It's been a long time since I had to take a prescription pain reliever, since even when I get migraines, the Excedrin Migraine pills work if I take them right at the start. Usually, OTC ibuprofen and others work well for me as well for cramping at that time of the month.
