Perpetual Overthinkers Society
Are you a perpetual overthinker? Are you constantly over-analyzing everything? Second guessing yourself and other people? Do you plan scenarios in your head that realistically you would have no clue would ever take place? Even fictional ones? Do you try an account for every possibility when you know this would be impossible? Do you continue to procrastinate on decisions you know you want to make?
If so, welcome to the club. ![]()
I have had anxiety. I'm not at my worst now, it is ok, but quite distracting like an anxious energy. I'm also hyper-analytical in nature. It is a chicken or egg scenario. I wonder if being hyper-analytical drives a lot of the anxiety or the anxiety made me so analytical. I think I was analytical first but can't be sure.
How to live more in the moment? I can be impulsive sometimes, but not naturally. For me impulse is just a rapid form of analysis, so I'm more likely to be that way with no-brainer decisions. Yet sometime I get stuck in the loop, on obvious choices.
For instance, I like if restaurants have a short menus, with long menus I spend ages looking at it. I do often look at menus online before I go because of diet requirements, but also just to choose the restaurant. However going to something bad isn't all bad, there is an experience to be had to knowing it was bad, enjoying the company and continuing checking new ones out for the next round.
I do have strategies to break out of negative thought pattern from CBT, which I use for general overthinking. It does work well some of the time. However it doesn't render me all that productive, as soon as I have to do something I ten to start again. I'm not calm. I need soemthign that still allow be to think, but in a more focused way.
I can have trouble focusing even though I have interests, and stuff to do. My brain gets bombarded with different ideas, lateral links
What have you done that has worked? I'm going to try some supplements like CBD and GABA. I have tried supplements before, but nothing was ground breaking. Sage has some research behind it, for concentration but I haven't persisted with it, even though I have the pills.
In the past external stimuli disrupted me most, I think I have reached a stage when internal bombardment is the real issue.
I have reduced the side effect of adrenaline, and even the response, now I need to tame my racing mind somehow. ![]()

I used to overthink & over analyze because of anxiety & OCD. I don't have that problem nowadays because I take Buspar for my anxiety & Neurontin for my OCD.
