Weight Loss Progress
Hey guys,
I think ever since I hit puberty I have been struggling with my weight. I have never been like, really overweight or anything, but I've always been on the heavy side and I would like to change it.
Though the last half year hasn't been very promising to me. Mainly because I lack motivation and willpower to keep going. Which is why I made this post: If I share this with others, I might be more motivated to actually keep working on my weight and show everyone on here that it is possible.
I am obsessed with my weight and I think about it all the time. I usually only wear black clothes because they make me look slimmer, but the last couple of weeks even my black clothes start to make me feel uncomfortable because I seem to become too big for them if this keeps going. I have become more and more insecure when it comes to intimacy with my boyfriend, so I hope I can finally make myself and everyone else proud & discipline myself.
I started a little over 1 week ago.
Current Weight & Height
Height: 168cm (5'6)
Current Weight: 84kg (185lb)
Max weight: 85,5kg (188lb)
Weight loss: 1.5kg (3lb)
Goal weight: 55kg (121lb)
I will try to update every week on mondays with a description of what I have done do lose weight in that past week.
Thanks for stopping by to read all this.
yeah, that's a funny property of black clothes, i noticed the same with me.

I'll copy my post on the weight loss support forum I just registered on. I think watching others lose weight could really help me as well.
What I have started / plan on doing:
What I have already started doing:
- I drastically cut down on my sugar intake . I never realized sugar was such a fattening product, which is why I now try to stay as close to 0 grams as possible (excluding natural sugars for example in fruits). I don't really drink sodas anyway, but I have replaced my thirst for lemonade with a thirst for water. I would say water takes up about 90% of what I drink a week. I am also trying to drink as close to 2 litres of water a day, but I'm still struggling. I usually drink about 1 - 1,5 litres a day.
- I started to cut out sweets and replaced them with sugar free chewing gum . This may not be the most healthy choice as constantly chewing gum may cause health problems, but it's a temporary solution for my cravings for unhealthy, fried or sweet foods. I used to crave foods that have lots of calories in them (pizza, jelly beans, meats, fried chicken, crisps etc).
What I plan on doing:
- Do the cooking completely by myself . I currently live in a house with 3 other teenagers who live with... How do I say this in English.. Guidance? Counselors? Surveillance? Every one of us has to cook 1 day a week, but I am going to try to sort out that I get to cook my own dinner every single day and do groceries myself. The reason why I would love to do this is because I have already done this for about half a year at another place, and because I genuinely love healthy foods while my fellow housemates often prepare unhealthy meals (wraps, mac & cheese, other pastas). Though I would much rather have some chicken & broccoli instead of those dishes. I love vegetables, chicken and I do not like foods like potatoes nearly as much. Which is why I feel cooking my own meals would really benefit my goals to lose weight and become healthy. I'm also planning on buying a smaller plate so my portions seem to be the same size while they are actually a lot smaller.
- Get my sleeping pattern back on track . I am definitely a night owl, but both my health and weight could really benefit from having a proper sleeping pattern. When I don't have to go anywhere I could easily stay up until 6-8am and get out of bed around 4pm. Since this is interfering with my relationship as well (as I'm always tired when he comes over) I feel like this could be a huge step forward.
- Exercise more . Yes, the old weight loss standard that is exercise. The thing is, I love dancing. I love learning choreography of K-pop songs and I don't mind spending time on it. I just don't spend my time on it nearly as much as I would love to. I would actually love signing up for a membership at a fitness center or swimming center, but I currently don't have the money to do so.
I'm trying to do the same (it's hard when you have public shyness, a mother who thinks you have issues, and the fact that most weight loss things seem to be directed towards females). I wish you luck! Continue on this amazing path with positivity and encouragement. I look forward to your next update.

It's good that you've cut refined sugar out but don't completely dismiss it, I always put coconut sugar in my water because it gives you energy to work out. Professional athletes, like cyclists (Team Sky) have sugar water to give them energy boosts in races for example.
Replace gum with fruit, fruit will not put weight on you and this is a fact, it'll maybe bloat you for an hour but that's all. It will also fill you and make you feel satisfied as your body is craving natural sweetness. Bananas are great for this, even smoothies with some veg thrown in. Stay away from dairy as it just bloats though, like don't even bother with yoghurt. Make some healthy rice bars, they're a really good snack when you have a sweet craving. There are a few things like this. If you're gonna eat fruit though MAKE SURE you brush your teeth because of the citric acid in some fruits.

Natural carbs are important, whole grains too. These give you the energy you need to function properly, don't listen to all that crap about not having carbs or you'll turn into an energyless drone. So, stuff like potatoes, rice, lentils etc. You can make all this stuff taste really good btw, it doesn't have to be bland and boring - invest in some seasoning herbs and such, I have a huge rack of them in my kitchen. Try to eat a lot of green veg, it really helps with weight loss. Remember, diet is 70% important to losing weight.
I am vegetarian and lost a lot of weight (I like cheese too much) but I follow channels like the vegan corner who have lots of actual healthy recipes which do help with weight loss and they're not even hard to do. Vegans basically have the healthy eating thing down so maybe check that stuff out.
I know it's good to stay up at night and such but like it's actually ridiculously unhealthy because you're not getting Vitamin D from the sun and early nights really help you feel better in general, like I try to get to bed at about 9pm then wake up around 7am or 8am. I set alarms to go to bed on my phone when I feel like I need to take it way more seriously. When I get up I just have a big drink of orange juice then go for a quick walk then come back and eat some breakfast cause I'll be hungry after the walk.
Get a bike and go cycling, it does your entire body and it's easy to lose weight on a bike, it's not as intense on your joints as like running. Go up some hills and get sweating. If you have no space you can buy one of those folding bikes. If all else fails then just go running. Start with trying to run straight for 5 minutes then build it up a minute or two every day, whatever you can handle and soon you'll be running straight for hours. Good luck.

Awe thank you for the nice replies everyone! There has been some progress!
Though I cannot weigh myself because the batteries in my scale are done for so I'll have to get new ones.
But I managed to get my sleeping pattern back on track! Now I go to bed between 11pm-2am (which is a huge difference considering I used to go to bed between 4am-7am).
And I now cook my own meals 3 days a week. So it's a step in the right direction!
To Lunella, who said I should replace chewing gum with fruit: I tried to eat a lot of fruit, but it actually makes me hungrier, or I suppose I could say it makes me crave other foods more. Don't really know why it's like that, but I hate it since I love fruits! :<

The thing with fruit is don't just eat fruit on it's own because there's no carbs in them that fill you up properly. Eat fruit before every normal meal, the montignac method is what a lot of these alternative girls are doing to keep the weight off these days and it seems to actually work. Basically fruit = stop sweet craving like chocolate/crap. Try eating a few apples before a meal. I believe the montignac method is more popular in Germany, more things about it in the German language, I have to translate everything lol.

@Hypnotized,
As you explore, please consider the following as a research item:
- Ketosis, or Keto Diet, or Ketogenics
When you were born, your body was fueled by keytones, then the world probably swapped your diet towards man made formula and foods. Today your body has probably been fueled by insulin, which is derived from a diet of sugar and carbs. Along with the insulin comes a tremendous amount of alergies as well as weight, our bodies don't do well on insulin as our genetics have not evolved towards modern farming.
Think caveman - what did that caveman eat?
I live off of a diet of good fats and protein, I intend to consume almost no carbs but they always sneak in. I'm currently at the healthiest I've even been in my life, no Rx medications, no alergies, I can drop a pound of weight a day if I desire. BUT, I had to give up all forms of carbs.
I eat: almonds, walnuts, avocado, cheese, bacon, chicken, cauliflower and brocilli, plus a protein shake in the morning. For exercise I walk, it is enough.
I completely disagree. The difference between cane sugar(carb) and coconut oil(fat) is very significant in how your body digests. Coconut oil is part of my diet, Ketosis.
I use walking to help keep my weight healthy. I also cut out soda for the most part.
If you want to get into walking and have a Fitbit join the group I made for WrongPlanet.

I am glad you are showing an interest in health.

I have hard time comprehending how absurdly bad advice this is. "Proffesional cyclists drink sugar water before races, therefore it is good for fat loss.". To lose weight you have to be in a calorie deficit. Drinking sugar water before working would be a total waste of calories. It doesn't have any nutrients, any fiber, but worst of all, it is not filling at all. You might aswell replace that sugar water with a dessert, and atleast get some enjoyment out of it...
Fruit does in fact cause weight gain, if you eat more calories than you burn and this is a fact. Dairy does not cause weight gain and this is another fact.

While I don't have a problem with ketogenic diets per say, your statement about insulin is wrong. Insulin is not an energy source, it's a storage hormone. And keep in mind that protein also causes insulin spikes, fat is the only macronutrient that causes little to no spike. The only reason you drop weight so fast, is because you lose water weight from the glycogen stored in your body. You don't actually lose more fat than your deficit dictates. The ketogenic diet can have some satiety benefits for some people though.
