I been having acid reflux for 3 weeks now, it comes & goes, acid reflux makes me cough. I was doing laundry, I was in the laundry room in my apartment building, I was taking my clothes out of the dryer when I was So Badly coughing, I almost threw up in the laundry room.

How do you get acid reflux? What kind food do you have to eat?

I find that bread is a no-no to have if I want to avoid reflux. Sometimes the acidic feeling is so strong I think I might breathe fire. Feels awful.

Bassets wine gum gives me acid reflux, and similar candy.

I avoid eating things that gives me AR after nightfall because i do not want to wake up in the middle of the night throwing myself of the bed gasping for air while acid reflux go down into my lungs, and that horrible acidic feeling afterwards...

OP this is worth getting checked out by your doctor.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux so bad it makes you cough and feel like you're going to vomit can be indicative of problems that are easily managed but carry increasing risk they longer they go untreated.

I have acid reflux & take Pepcid 2wice a day; prescription strength which I think is 2wice the strength of the over the counter one. I also take Protonix/Pantoprazole as needed. I've taken Prilosec/Omeprazole before too. Prolosec is over the counter but it doesn't work rite away. You have to take it a few days before it really starts helping. The OTC one says to take it every day for two weeks & the bottles are two weeks worth. My GP prescribed it to me for a month thou.

Some of the foods that make my reflux worse are things that are acidic like tomatoes, spicy food, & fried food.

I find eating icecream helps when my throat is burning/hurting because milk can neutralize acid & ithe coldness of the icecream feels good on my throat.

Reflux can be caused by many different things, ongoing reflux warrants proper investigation rather than just symptomatic management. Damage to vocal cords and potential for higher risk of oesophageal cancer can occur if reflux is not dealt with properly.

Alcohol can make it worse too.

My girlfriend has bad acid reflux sometimes cuz of a gallbladder stone or two & getting stressed out easily.

I inherited such a condition from my parents, both of whom suffered if they so much as ate one spoonful too much food at a sitting. so I learned how to listen to the subtle "too full" signals and back off just before then.

You should have a check up with a gastroenterologist.

Common acid reflux triggers or things that can worsen or prolong it are. .

Obesity
Cigarette smoke
Alcohol
Acidic foods/beverages
Greasy foods
Heavily seasoned foods
Shelf stable baked goods and boxed processed foods
Chocolate
Coffee/tea/caffeine

A lot of people tend to a lot of bread or drink a lot of milk when they have it but this usually doesn't help and may make it worse.

If the reflux is from run of the mill GERD, it might be that you ate something or drank or smelled something that triggered it, and it may remain so for a few days without an antacid.

Zantac tends to work well for acid reflux but I would also see a doctor and avoid the triggers listed above.

Maybe the most common reason for acid reflux, is drinking water with meals.

Don't drink water 30 minutes(1 hour if you can manage it) before eating, this will weaken the stomach acid before eating.
Don't drink water sooner than 30 minutes after eating, this will interfere with the digestive process.

People often think the reason for acid reflux is too much acidity in the stomach, but it's actually the complete opposite. The stomach acid is not strong enough to digest the food properly, and the undigested food then pushes the stomach acid upwards. This is amplified especially if you drink alot of water with the meal.

I used to get acid reflux, and this completely solved it for me.
