Football obsession in NTs
Why are there a bunch of people who are NT and really obsessed with football?
I like football, it's been one of my specialist interests, but I can't do what they do...
What they do is sit around twitter all day long when their team is losing moaning about their team.
I support the same team and it's miserable to go onto twitter as this is all that's on my timeline.
I don't mean on a Saturday or on a match day. I mean all day, every day.
Like if they devote their entire lives to moaning about the board, the board will change. Or the manager etc. When in reality, that's not going to happen.
In reality all that will happen is that they will be in a perpetually bad mood thinking about something which in the grand scheme of things isn't important.
At least autistic people have specialist interests which bring us joy. There's nothing joyful in this behaviour of theirs. It's just talking about something which is both trivial and sad all the time.
The fact that specialist interests bring us joy is why I was all up for wasting my time like this last year. Spending hour after hour analysing win after win. That was fun. But... it's no fun to spend that much time talking about it when you're not champions elect... And if something trivial (like football) isn't fun then... why bother wasting that much time on it?

I see your point, and I don't get it either. I follow tennis and I have players I like and dislike, but I don't moan about them all day, only when they've done something moan-worthy.

My opinion is that you are mixing up two different sorts of people. In most hobbies, the people that partake in the hobby generally exist in a spectrum (heh) with one end being those who like the hobby in of itself, and at the other end, those who like the hobby because they enjoy the social aspect it brings to them.
One sort is the kind who are genuinely interested in the game, in the stats, the plays, everything that contributes towards a team playing good football. I imagine these people exist and are football fans.
The other sort are more fans of football because it gives them an excuse to talk to people. A good conversation starter, a reason to argue with people, light-heartedly or otherwise. Or perhaps it is just something to fill their time.
Most people probably exist in between those two extremes.
Maybe this helps. I think the difficulty in understanding why they act as they do might come from the non-obvious reason that they are doing what they are doing. From my perspective, these people would say they are fans of the game, but i would maybe say they are not 'true' fans of the game, but that it is something to fill their time and appease their social nature.

I do follow the Colts during the fall, I prefer listening to the games on the internet ,and check out message boards if the game is good one, I don't enjoy the game the same way as others, I don't drink beer and get together with friends at a sports bar, I have never been to a NFL game. I think for me, it's a distraction, like comic books, music, movies, I am more into them, than sports in general.

Professional sports generally are a sad and terrible waste of money, time, and resources. When your team wins you yourself achieved nothing. Why jump around like a monkey or feel bad over something over which you have no control. You are not the tenth man, you are a machine that turns beer into urine.

American Football is well loved nation wide mostly because it's a modern war simulation.
In the UK high school boys were under pressure to like football so they had to. As adults a lot of men find they don't like football. I work with all guys and they never talk about football because they're just not into it. My dad, however, is a huge football fan and revolves his whole life around football.
I have about 8 male cousins and only 2 of them like football.
When England is playing for the World Cup, everyone goes mad - even those who don't like football. But that's the only time when everyone talks about it. I do take part in it too because I don't want to be a wet blanket. I think people do this during the World Cup because it's their country playing. Wouldn't it be nice if all wars were based on football or other team sports, rather than guns and killing each other?

Us aspies can be into that too.I love my local Texas high school football team so much.I also love my local Texas college teams and the Dallas Cowboys.Although it seems like people like us would get more into the stats side of things.I dont really understand football.I just know the gist of it.The whole state seems to be obsessed with football.Aspies and neurtypicals alike.
Football?
Either which usual version of English, it's not as well-known from where I came from.
No...
Instead, people here are obsessed with basketball, boxing, billiards and beauty pageants.
