We don’t have that in Canada as almost no one gets a bill for anything ever.
Some people go broke from being unable to work while sick or disabled, though. Get messed up and can’t work again? Disability, the highest paying form of social assistance, only pays about $1400/month. That’s not enough money to even pay rent in most places, never mind food/medicine/clothing/transportation etc.
People don’t go bankrupt from medical bills here.. but they might face financial ruin if they can’t work for an extended period or ever again.
