I'd like to know because when I was in the hospital we did a trial of Xanax and I did ok on it but as with the Ativan I'd have to take it multiple times a day. I know there is a Xanax XR but I don't know if insurance would cover it. What I'd like to know is would Medicaid cover Xanax XR (unknown dose)?

This was awhile ago, but, so maybe you've found out by now, but I'm pretty sure it does. My doctor prescribed me Alprazolam .5 mg (the generic of Xanax-Medicaid doesn't cover the brand name Xanax because it comes in a generic form) temporarily and I'm pretty sure it can be found in an extended release form.

If not, Valium and some others also come in generic versions and last longer. I've heard somewhere that Xanax is a 'short release' benzo or whatever and lasts only 4-6 hours. The other two should last longer. I haven't tried them, but I don't think they are as strong. I've read somewhere that .5 mg Xanax=.5 mg Klonopin=10 mg Valium=1 mg Atvian=25 mg Librium. But there's a difference between them probably, like how long they take to start working, etc. I would ask your doctor or call the place, the place you applied for Medicaid, or your pharmacist and they should be able to tell you what is and what is not covered.

Anyway.....I'm sorry that this is several months off..... :? but I was doing a search and your question came up. I saw that you had no answers, so I decided to answer it. :)
