Will you be watching The Beijing Olympics?

I will most certainly be watching.

What say you, fellow Aspies?

I will be watching as well. I think that China should free Tibet when America frees Hawaii.

Nope! I'd rather do laundry than watch announcers spend 99% of broadcasting time with feel good BS stories about a participant's 5 yr old pet while pumping endless advertisements. Nope...not gonna do it.

What a comparison. Tibet and Hawaii. Oh well.

Poll: anyone in Hawaii want to be under Chinese rule instead of being a US state?

Olympics should be entertaining nonetheless. My 2 cents.

There was a woman here on WP who was obsessed with Olympic records and data... I can't remember her username though. Anyone remember?

i'll be watching when i have the chance, but i'll make time to watch the rowing events, the finals are the 15th and 16th. I've heard the canadian men's 8+ is really good and has a good chance of wining gold. i'll probably watch the swimming and kayaking events, but rowing's my focus.

I'm watching it as well. Team USA did well in Athens in 2004 and maybe again here as well. Though people say boycott it when this is the time for nations to get together and set aside their differences in competitions for fun basically.

If you are a gymnastics fan, both Hamm Brothers,
Paul & Morgan, are out of Beijing due to injury.
They may return in 2016 or 2020.

This is a total loss for the US Men's Gymnastics Team. :(

To add insult to injury, the Anti-Doping Agency
gave one of the brothers a warning on July 3rd
after he was given a shot for his injury
without clearence from the Anti-Doping Agency.

The other brother was given a similar warning on May 24th.

i agree, and why should you ruin what could be an athlete's only chance at the olympics? they train for 4 years for this one competition, not to mention the many, many, years before that, and a boycott would make that all pretty much a waste. some of these sports have such a small age margin where you're at your prime, and after that you're too old. endurance sports tend to favour older athletes than other sports, but sports requiring strength and speed tend to favour younger athletes. so a boycott could very well decimate a young sprinter's only shot at the olympics.

It starts at 9:50pm here, I don't know if that's live or delayed because I'm a bit hopeless with timezones. I don't know if I'll be up then and my tv reception is not great, I'm in a hilly area with lots of tall trees.

Bang a gong, get it on, bang a gong.

i'm watching and they're doing it in 15 min segments with a 30 sec ad break.

The first segment was good, I liked the drumming and the kid's song.

Second segment (on the scroll) a bit boring.

The music is generally good.

...bit later

starting to look a bit generic now. tired of people moving up and down.

Actually, not so far off the mark - Hawaii is not so different from the mainland, where the Amerindians were subjugated and their land was taken. Both Hawaii and Tibet have been colonized, the traditional culture repressed, and large numbers of foreigners brought in. As soon as China completes the demographic realignment of Tibet, they can have an election or referendum, where the new (non-native) population can democratically affirm the union of Tibet and China!!

Poll: do any of the ethnic Hawaiians support the military overthrow of Queen Lili'uokalani by the Americans, followed by a military occupation, seizure of lands, and immigration that turned Hawaiians into a minority on their own islands??

Poll: do Hawaiians feel closer to the Dalai Lama or to the militarized empires of China and the US?

The Hamm Brothers actually decided to not compete due injuries mostly. They back in 2012 for sure.
