Major League Soccer plans to expand to 18 teams by 2011.
Seattle was awarded the 2009 expansion and Philadelphia the 2010 expansion.
Two cities will be awarded the 2011 expansion.
Pick one and give a good case why the city should be awarded the expansion.
By default, I pick Portland.
Portland has only one major-league sports team: The Portland Trail Blazers.
And soccer is more of a worldwide universal language than basketball.
It will revitalize the city, increasing the number of construction jobs availible.
Once construction of an $85 million stadium{not kidding}commences, the
new soccer team can play at PGE Park, sharing the turf with minor-league soccer team Portland Timbers and minor-league baseball team Portland Beavers.
Or some of the $85 million can be used to upgrade Portland's Memorial Coliseum
to accomodate the new soccer team. The Trail Blazers play next door
at Portland's Rose Garden Arena. It will be convinient to have two major-league
teams play next door to each other. Am I right?
