I recently went to the hospital yesterday as I kept having chest pains and was scared something was going on. I got an EKG and blood work done and a chest x-ray. As I was sitting in the hospital bed waiting for the tests they had me hooked up to a heart monitor. Since I was worried about my heart I kept watching it. It gave off an error because one of the leads they hooked to my chest kept coming off so it made a noise. I heard a reoccuring noise that came from another room but for some reason thought it could have been me. My heart rate all of a sudden shot up to 160 and a yellow "Tachycardia" message on the heart monitor went off along with a noise. I started panicking. My heart rate went back down but it made me paranoid.

I eventually got out of the hospital at 2am in the morning last night and luckily they didn't find anything. I don't like being in the ER. I've went there before but I hate the noises that come while you are there. Especially from the heart monitor. I did all I can from having a severe panic attack while I was there. Towards the end I just wanted to leave really badly.

Yeah, I get anxious when I go to the ER although it doesn’t seem to be as bad for me as it used to be. I used to get panic attacks when I went.

I’m sorry to hear you had such a rough time. I hope you’re feeling better.

Yes, any sort of ER environment gives me sensory overwhelm, leading to anxiety. Oh, and the waiting to be seen makes me feel anxious too.

Thank you for sharing blitzkrieg! I definitely get anxious waiting to be seen and the sensory overload too.

A&E gives me anxiety because of the long waiting you have to do. Some people have had to wait over 10 hours to get seen. Imagine that. Puts me off going.

Yeah, I get anxious because unless I'm bleeding or literally dying I will have to wait for hours because of triage. I don't think it's good to be jealous of someone who looked like they just went through a meat grinder because they got in sooner.

And then there the patients who literally did die in the waiting room, and were in a lot of pain, because the staff didn't listen or care.

Me & my girlfriend both experience major anxiety about her going to the ER but we think it's very justified due to her having some hellish experiences there or after her being admitted as a patient during an ER visit. Stuff that could probably be considered medical malpractice if she were able to go somewhere else for a second opinion that was entirely independent of the university hospital. Some of her family has experienced major mistreatment at that hospital as well.

Very luckily I've had almost no experience being in the ER as a patient & both times were related to bleeding(I slashed my arm when I was 20 during a psychotic depression partly related to me & my first girlfriend breaking up & like 5 years ago I accidentally cut the side of my thumb opening a can of veggies) & both were quickly treated & I was dismissed. However there is a chance I may go to the ER tomorrow. I've been having bad back pain for about a week now & IDK what caused it. I got no sleep at all Saturday due the pain & I would have went to Urgent Care on Sunday but our bus does not run at all on Sundays. I was planning to go to Urgent Care this morning but my pain was actually a little better today. I was also able to sleep a bit Sunday night & this morning. Cass has a routine test at the hospital tomorrow morning(ultrasound on her kidneys because she's had kidney stones in the past & sees that doc in a couple weeks) & if my back pain starts getting worse I'll go to the ER tomorrow morning. If I do end up going to the ER I'll post about it here.

Thank you for sharing Tamaya! The long wait would give me anxiety too. 10 hours is a long time to wait especially when it's something serious. I don't blame you at all. That would give me anxiety too!

I know exactly what you mean. I think about those that are worse off then me when I'm in there and sometimes feel guilty because mine isn't as bad as what others could have. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing Nick! I'm sorry to hear what your girlfriend experienced! It's very hard to want to come back to the ER when you have a bad experience. I'm sorry to hear about your bad back pain! Back pain is hard to manage and can give alot of anxiety. I hope you are able to get treatment ok at the ER and feel free to post your experience :) I hope everything goes ok!

We have the NHS in England so don't have a medical bill.

Emergency med broken bones etc. might be best, but am not so sure ?.I want people who are otherwise strangers to my own body,to make determinations about it unless , am on board with them.. And the stress of waiting in line during a emergency situation can be a aweful situation to be in , I feel. Very sorry for those have had to endure those situations. 8O :(
Fortunately was unconcious during my first worse visit , Previous and subsequent visits , were borderline nightmares.
Pain management does not seem to be high on their priority list for ER patients. Causes me to wonder what the mortality numbers are for ER visits ? Are they not willing to keep doctors oncall due to costs?
