Really? I thought you said you were scared of her?

I was 'scared' I might offend the lady since I don't understand the boundaries involved.

Your comment was a non-sequitur, btw.

They’re allowed to change their opinion.

If they have.

I feel more comfortable chatting with you, now, yes.

Also, what I will say as far as psych diagnoses go, Autism Spectrum Disorders have a highly positive reputation.

And that is wonderful, truly.

But I am kinda parceling out my thoughts on that because I have a diagnosis of ASD myself. And I have had experiences that were negative with other people with an ASD diagnosis.

Including school staff trying to pair me up as friends with one who I said many times I didn’t want to be friends with (I went along some times because it was easier). And then as I have mentioned, two sexual assaults (which I am not going into detail on because it upsets me to write out) with two males in their 20s who had the diagnosis of ASD.

If the way I deal with parceling all this out offends anyone then I am sorry to say I can’t help them. They need to figure out their own their feelings.

What I will say, is that I would also be careful on telling a survivor of sexual assault the right or wrong way to write or ask about their experiences. That is not going to go well in most cases.

And yes, this is kinda directed at MrsPeel but it can apply to anyone else.

I wasn't offended about how you viewed autistics, just curious, but now you've explained your experiences I can see where you're coming from.

And I don't believe I told you the right or wrong way to write about your experiences, not sure where you got that from. You must have read something into my response which wasn't there.

I'm not sure how to take your defensiveness. It comes across as aggressive but maybe it's because you're processing some trauma that I don't understand.

I agree the OP seems rather scary.
Or at least, prickly.
But she seems nice when we get her talking a bit.

Sorry, OP, shouldn't talk about you on your thread (but you did want to know what people thought of you?)

OK, yeah.
It's hard to get to know you because you start on a topic but clam up when it gets personal, but I think I see where you're coming from.
I completely agree that even if you did have ASPD, there may be ways you can use your moral sense and intellect to navigate through society without causing harm to others.
Also agree that the stigma over it may be hindering people from getting diagnoses and help for it. And I imagine there probably isn't much help out there.

I don't see why that is an issue.
I think the OP has delicate fingers, btw. [jokeing]

I am defensive because in my experience anytime I have not talked 100% positively about people with autism people have taken it extremely offensively and even personally insulted me.

And not the entire thing was aimed at you. But yes, I did read into some of what you wrote. Some people would, like it or not.

If you don’t like me then you don’t have to view or respond to my threads.

I am not offended.

I can be prickly because it can be hard when on a hard topic like this people expect me to open up all at once on a topic that can be hard to open up about.

I may have made a thread but that is not an official agreement to talk about anything I don’t want to or take advice I don’t wish to.

I really don’t care as long as people don’t start personally insulting me based on disliking my opinions. Without being able to actually refute them.

I am defensive simply because I don’t buy that my posts were truly that negative about aspies as a whole.

I mentioned certain subgroups and ideas that have been told to me since childhood on aspies and such that seem...weird. Considering what I know.

And then I am told that I am so negative on aspies as a whole.

When that is not true at all.

I simply asked some questions that I knew a lot of people would dislike. And I expect that it can make people nervous.

I simply am going to not deal much with someone who immediately jumps to wirting what she wrote.

And yes I am talking about MrsPeel.

Which I must say I found “prickly” myself. And sadly, I am likely in the future to not talk much with her in the future.

Everyone can think what they like about this.

I go by behavior.

And to an extent, age.

And, you don’t know me that well. You can’t say truly say what diagnosis I have something or don’t.

I may stop checking in on this thread as much btw. Just a heads up.

If it's any consolation 99% of the OPs for every thread on WP post and run.

I do understand that ASD has a extremely positive reputation.

I would say the one of the most out of the psych diagnoses.

So, anything negative obviously I should have realized would be taken...not so well.

I think around psych stuff people have a lot of biases.

I view autism and it’s related disorders as something that quite simply IS.

I don’t ascribe excessive positive or negative attributes to it.

This is a different approach then most take it seems.

And I don’t think it’s one people with ASD are used to.

That's what NTs do...they ascribe attributes to autism. Autistic people try and fit into the ideal created for them.
