I have ADHD and Vyvanse helps a lot with the focus and remembering to do things, but not with other AS-related things (didn't expect it to).

I was told that you cannot be dx'd with ASD and ADHD. Is that wrong? Either way it is a strange thing because you can get treatment for ADHD if you have ASD.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at about 6-8, can't remember which, and then a few years later AS was added. Previously I was against taking any medicine, but after I started feeling like it got worse I agreed to start doing drugs, so to speak. Currently on 60mg Strattera (atomoxetine).

It's just that some specialists do not want to diagnosed any comorbid condition with Autism or just pretend your comorbid condition is the only thing you have but causes your "autistic symptoms".

Wrong.

You CAN have both ASD AND ADHD.

I have ADD, diagnosed at age 15, suspected since I was at kindergarden.

my preteen sis has ADHD, suspected from a very, very young age, diagnosed at age 6.

I think my kindergarden-age sister has ADHD. She's impulsive, talks nonstop, and hyperactive in general.

I got myself tested for ADHD, and all of the results said boarderline. I do experience many of the it's symptoms, including the easily being distracted, and needing to stim, though I seldom rock forward and backward except when also sitting in a rocking chair, but I love sitting in swivel chairs.

I have been diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder, which does have similar symptoms, but the causes are different.

You can't stop Adderall unless Adderall stops you.

I have ADHD and so does my niece. I think I'd like to try medication sometime but the side effects make it seem like it's not worth it to me. They scare me. And I'm always the person who seems to react oddly to medication. :(

I was officially diagnosed with ADD when I was in my 40s. Tried ritalin and it didn't do much for me.

I was diagnosed with ADHD and BPD last week (I'm 21) and now I'm on adderall. The drug effects have varied greatly, but let's just say that adderall + caffeine (even half a cup, but I had about three) + major sleep deprivation (thanks adderall) = BAD BAD BAD mix. The second day of taking adderall, my BPD was very pronounced. One moment I was manic with a million thoughts racing through my mind and, seriously, about a second later, I plunged into abject misery. And then I felt all wonderful again. All of this occurred in less than a minute.......at work. hahaha But it was only that one day. So far everything is okay except I am not enjoying the subsequent crashes.......but honestly I attribute this to my poor decision of drinking coffee (to increase adderall's effectiveness... it seems to depend highly on whether I take it with or without food as well as what type) and the fact that I sleep about 1.5-3 hours per night. I initially went to see my doctor about my major anxiety problems and I must say, adderall has been superb in that department.

Oh god, that sounds wonderful. I almost can't imagine what I'd be like without a backdrop of anxiety.

Yeah, Vyvanse is awesome! :D

Technically, you're not supposed to be - but something like 75% of people with AS have enough symptoms to qualify for a secondary diagnosis of ADHD!

I voted "maybe so". I need a stimulant. I don't have one, unfortunately, except my Abilify, but they added Tegretol and I don't know if they should have. Ritalin didn't work, but then I was only on it for 5 days, and anyway other stimulants (coffee, energy drinks, other prescription psych drugs that act like stimulants even tho they are not classified as stimulants) worked. :)
