If you look at Dr. Aspergers work he originally called the disorder "Autistic Psychopathy" due to the high frequency of conduct disorders and antisocial behavior associated with the original defination. Today's defination does not include this as diagnostic criteria because it was stigmatizing and also not everyone with "mild autism" have these traits. People with classic aspergers (Autistic Psychopathy) had more behavioral problems such as conduct disorder and adhd (then called hyperkinesis). Correct me if im wrong but as far as I remember from reading the original defination, one of the original 4 Autistic Psychopathic patients was refered to Dr.Asperger for hitting another kid with a hammer.

I have considered both schizoid and Avoidant personality disorders to explain my social difficulties. I don't think I have schizoid personality disorder as, whilst I require a lot of alone time and struggle to maintain friendships due to the fact that most require too much social interaction for me and often upset my routines to the point that I have a meltdown over it (overload), I do have emotions (even if I can't always express them) and am more prone to being overly honest/open and gullible than I am towards manipulating people. I am like a child who keeps forgetting that sometimes others cannot always be trusted. I don't like to hurt people. I am just not good at socialising.

It could be Avoidant personality disorder as I do avoid social situations because of anxiety and I do feel so very lonely at times because I feel so different to other people. I live in a world of my own most of the time and don't really understand the social world of others. However I also find social situations confusing and tend to overload quickly in them (too much to process at once). It also doesn't cover my need for routine and sameness and my intense interests.

So I don't know what my problem is. All I know is that it's been life long and was not helped by bullying throughout my younger years and my adult years.

Hope you figure out what causing your problems.

Fascinating!

Dude, even if someone disagnsoed you with it they could mess up..
Due to the empathy thing, apparently aspergers is often misdiagnosed with npd or anti social.
(the empathy stereotype pisses me off)

I dont think people with aspergers get misdiagnosed often with antisocial personality disorder. I would rather think its the other way around if anything.

Anti-social Personality Disorder? Then you wouldn't be posting here.

Not necessarily. Some people with ASPD like to brag on forums about the terrifying things they do in real life (for example).
