natural anxiety remedy
If you suffer from anxiety, as do I, try listening to binaural beats, available on YouTube (and other places). You must use stereo headphones to get the effect.
What it is are two different tones going into each ear separated in frequency by a few hertz. The difference between the two tones causes the brain to tune into the frequency that separates the two tones. Example: the right ear hears 100 hertz and the left 107 hertz. The brain then produces a 7 hertz pulsating tone that corresponds to Theta brainwaves, a relaxed, just before sleep feeling.
Listen to delta, gamma, theta or alpha binaural beats for relaxation. Stay away from beta, that is the chatterbox wavelength where anxiety hangs out.

I find this astonishingly effective.
I agree, I personally meditate to brainwaves and find they help to an extent, however a good herbal remedy is Valerian and L-Theanine also helps.
Here's an article on L-Theanine and how it creates Alpha brainwaves.

I'll give it a try. I also like music with subliminal messages for relaxation, etc. I downloaded some back when Limewire was still around and it seemed to work. Even if it was "all in my head" thats fine, because subliminal messages are meant to be "all in your head"
I also like hypnosis tracks.
I'll check it out! Hell, I'll try anything once. Twice if I like it.

Just curious.
What does it say about me that this stuff drives me nuts? I don't mean to be contrary or start a debate. It really does, and I kind of wonder why when it seems to have such a calming effect on so many other people.
For me, it actually promotes anxiety. In part, I know why, but not entirely. When I listen to tracks like that, I'm always anticipating it evolving or transforming into a harder, rocking beat, which does relax me. The fact that it never does leaves me with that anticipation never fulfilled, and that drives me so bonkers I usually end up clicking through ambient music to see it it will develop into anything more. If it doesn't, I move on quickly. If it does, I'll start it over and listen to the whole thing.
Maybe it's like the difference between feather touches, and rhythmic massage (specifically percussive techniques). The first drives some people nuts, while the second is both stimulating and relaxing at the same time.
What I'm really curious about is what about us (anyone, not just those of us on the spectrum), that causes us to be relaxed by one, but not the other?
(Hope this doesn't derail the thread. If it does, feel free to ask to have it split.)

Not derailing by my standards. Glad to know your experience. I have another Aspie friend who I suggested try it and he said the same thing as you.
The only idea I have as to why it may work for me, is perhaps I have some degree of brain damage caused by a type of PTSD from long term sexual abuse years ago. I came upon an article that says there is evidence that that kind of abuse, especially in females, makes the big nerve that connects the brain hemispheres smaller than it should be. So integration of information between the hemispheres is slowed down. Maybe that causes brainwave disruption that these sounds somehow alleviate for me. But really, I'm just grasping at straws as far as a theory for why it helps me. It just has a very calming effect and makes me sleepy. Rhythmic music winds me up, which is ok and even pleasurable sometimes, but not if I'm melting down with anxiety.
So anyone else out there who has experiences, positive or negative or neutral, feel free to post them. Maybe we can figure it out?

Interesting except for the fact that the same applies to me. That would seem to invalidate that theory, except that you did later say, "especially in females."
Everybody is different anyway. There are almost no blanket givens in life. I have always found strong rhythms soothing. As far back as I can remember, and that's a long time. I remember my crib man! I also recall always hating this crap they used to play back in the Sixties called EZ Listening. There used to be a lot of radio stations devoted to it. Mother used to put me down for naps with it on. The only one it put to sleep was her.

Ok. I was having an anxiety meltdown and went to the binaurals for help. I tried to be aware of how and why it was working. Like you say, it doesn't go anywhere. That seems to be the key antidote for me. My mind starts going all over the place and when I listen to this stuff, it's like hypnotic and centering. I can't run down the psychic trails of despair, I'm just being lead by my ears on a smooth ride to nowhere. Here is the link to the one I just used:

The trippy visuals also refocus me from the little mental video snips that otherwise play over and over in my head with the obsessive renumeration of some mind splinter I am suffering at the moment.
BTW, I also hate EZ listening music. It makes me want to get out of my crib and hide, too!
And I'm not trying to talk anyone into this stuff, just a suggestion that seems to work for some of us. And interesting to ponder why it works for some and not for others.
