Are you aware of what triggers your meltdowns/shut downs? As I've gotten older I've learned to recognize my triggers better and spot the early signs that a meltdown is coming. If I recognize the signs early enough, I try to remove myself from the triggering situation or at least recognize what's happening and get myself to a quiet private place to ride it out/recover. It's not always possible but at least being aware of the causes has helped me feel a little more in control of the situation when it does happen (even if that just means I'm in control falling down a big dark hole).
me feeling short or shorter than usual around other people is what triggers my meltdowns. so its unavoidable i am afraid
basically my insecruties about my physical height is what causes my meltdowns. removing my triggers would be like saying be on your own for the rest of your life.
