Today is a sad day for me. I've lived all my whole life on the high end of the spectrum. I've been told by a few doctors I have autistic traits. I've been told I also had Borderline Personality disorder in my 20's an now I've reached my 40's and just spent 2 days in a Behavioral Unit for researching how many people asked how to kill themselves on the internet.

I was having a bit of anxiety that I just could not get under control on my own so I went to the local emergency room to see if they could help. After telling them my new found topic of research I was sent to a hospital 30 miles away and placed on a 48hr court order hold for having thoughts of suicide. The doctors meet with me and told me they felt I was Bi-Polar and wanted me to take lithium. I refused the treatment and went home. They had no grounds to hold me there because I'm not suicidal. They gave me nothing for the anxiety and now I still have the same strange feelings that I had on that day I went to the Emergency room to see if they could help me. On top of this I feel even worse because if you leave the hospital against doctors orders the insurance company will not pay for the stay there. I'm so tired of all the miss understandings. Everyone tells me that the problem is me and that I lack the ability to read and understand others. I’m so confused! :(

the ER is not a good place to go for psych care. good for you, though, for not letting yourself be labeled bipolar. two people in my family who are not bipolar (i'm a doctor and I know my family much better than the docs who are making these claims) believe their doc who tells them they are. psychiatrists are human and want to be able to help. bipolar is something they can treat so they "diagnose" it often.

try your PCP for help with anxiety. the least she should do is refer you to a decent shrink, but she may just prescribe something.
