Just want to see how common this is in the WP community. What are some of your experiences with your parents and how were they treated compared to you?

I have AS & epilepsy and my mother grew up in a small town in Central America. In her area, there is no such thing as autism, AS, and epilepsy. The nearest hospitals are 45 minutes away {via a regional bus} from the town where she grew up in.

My mother says the mental health system in her country is minimally piss-poor at best.

As for her, she has a habit of asking questions to answers my sister & I have already given her. This implies she may have short-term memory loss. {BTW, she is 57 and will turn 58 in April.} I think my mother may have the adult version of ADD.

For a while now, my mother has displayed/expressed behavior that is very bipolar.
When I see my neurologist in February, I'll ask for information
on getting my mom tested.

What about you? Share your stories here in this thread!

Note to self: DON'T WRITE SO FAST!

The second part of my OP goes as follows:

-When my mom is at work {She is a teacher, BTW}, she often loses things and has her students help her.

-Recently, my mother lost a big wad of grocery money and dropped out of a computer class she took out of frustration. To this day, my mom hates computers.

-One minute, my mother is yelling at me and/or my sister, then the next minute she is acting polite to the neighbor or to someone on the phone.

-My mother likes to use whatever me or my sister say and use it against us.

My mother was bipolar. My father has some OCD traits, and I've wondered occasionally if he was on the auty spectrum, but I'm not sure. He functions fine... my mother was completely ruined by her disease.

Stresses are common with illnesses in parents as most of them don't acknowledge that they have anything mentally or physically wrong with them. Im getting that problem and have for some time, but in no way can I impose any threat on their behalf seeing as its them and not me who's got 'probs'. worse if you're catholic I would think, and not saying that because im Christian.

I think my father had some ASD traits and my mother on the other hand mostly ADHD traits I guess.

Well, we suspect my father is on the autism spectrum, though he's never been diagnosed as such. Also, my parents both have PTSD.
