So what are the links? Is it true that ADHD is considered a spectrum disorder? Why and how are the two confused? How would a typical misdiagnosis ADHD case present (actual diagnosis aspergers misinterpreted as ADHD)

ADHD isn't an ASD. It just shares some symptoms. If all symptoms aren't scanned for, then it's pretty self explanatory the way it could be misdiagnosed. You can also just have both, but on the current DSM, apparently you're not supposed to be diagnosed with both anymore. Some people still are.

Serena, I thought they did away with not being allowed to diagnose other psych problems?

I, frankly, think it's stupid. Stimulants are well documented and can do wonders for people with ADHD, including those who also have ASD.

DSM V now allows simultaneous diagnosis

Whether the symptoms are more caused by autism or ADHD will never be known for sure, all doctors can do is see which symptoms fit the criteria better, and sometimes in one person it's both.
