My Brain/Freight Train

I’ll take you for a ride
Come on inside
There are no furnishings here
Just colours and light
Screeching along the edge of the rails
A speeding freight train

I’ll show you all the carriges
Blackened holes in the walls
A brownish red stained floor
Ceiling open to the tortured sky
We’ll withstand the elements together
For a little while

I wish I could tell you
Tales of tranquillity and leisure
But there’s no break in the weather

I’ll expose you to things
You’ve never seen before
Taking you to places within places
Through my blood stained floor
Things you couldn’t see, until now
Things you’ll wish never to see again

I’ll hold you
When you cry
From the jagged broken parts
Breathing in pain like a poison
And I’ll hold you back
When you laugh
Hysterical, inebriated, high

I’ll keep you safe
For a little while
I’ll keep you safe from me

But when the rocks fall through the cracks
And the ledge crumbles
And the train is rolling over the cliff
It is time to go
I’ll release your grip, finger by finger
And watch you float into the sky
Condensation among the clouds
While I fall
To be broken upon the ocean’s surface
And sink into its depths.

-

When I am washed ashore
And it rains
The ride will begin again.
