I have severe OCD. I shower 3 times a day. I go through "ridiculous" amounts of washing machine loads (to the point that I think my washing machine is about to break). When I am out of the house I am plagued by worries of the house catching fire, someone vandalising it etc. I have checking compulsions, when I am out with someone, they often say I don't need to open my bag and check all the contents so often, but I do (I also have to check my pockets, check that my trousers are clean, etc). Counting is a major problem for me, things must be in prime numbers. I also worry that I will kill someone in my sleep (I have frequent episodes of somnabulism) and that makes me avoid sleeping until I can't stay awake any longer.

I've hired a cleaner for this house because once I start cleaning I won't stop and can do it all day. My dad said I had to hire one and he'd pay for it. As the cleaning was interfering with my studying.

In fact my OCD makes my life hell.

I've told you about my OCD, I'm not asking for sympathy as such, I am interested in others who have OCD, and how it affects them?

My OCD varied a lot. When it was pretty bad I had an obsession with porn. I spent most of the day DLing, organizing it & sharing it & I didn't even enjoy most of it. When I got in my 1st & 2nd relationship my OCD changed to obsessing about my girlfriends. I kept checking my email, instant messenger & phone every few minutes incase I got a message from them. I got controlling due to worrying about them which contributed to the relationships ending. I started taking Buspar when I was in my 2nd relationship for anxiety & it greatly helped the anxiety aspect of my OCD but I still had the obsessions. I also had a huge crush obsession with a celebrity I think was partly related to my OCD but developed into kind of a delusional disorder. Abit after my 2nd relationship ended I started taking Neurontin/Gabapentin & it helped stop my obsessions. I got in my 3rd relationship shortly after & my OCD hasn't caused the problems it did in my previous two relationships. I also quit obsessing about the celebrity but that's kind of another story.

I had ocd awhile ago....I went on a large stint of clonazepam for about a year and a half.
Some how it has mostly disappeared...but several brain injuries later and I have new worries.
Good luck to you though....medications can help even if many of us are afraid of them.
Have you seen matchstick men? Pretty good movie.
