Unlike most doctors where almost everyone has to see one at some point, much less people see psychiatrists. I don't know anyone that has seen one and can offer a recommendation. How do I find a good one?

I don't have insurance (well, I do but with a ridiculously high deductible) and no income so it's a bit of a burden to visit multiple doctors just to check them out (not to mention the insane anxiety I get from going to new places).

Online reviews seem suspect. There just aren't enough of them to provide even a basic level of trust.

I'm going to ask my GP to recommend one but frankly from what I have seen, doctors recommend other doctors solely because they are a friend or they happen to know the name. Usually it has very little to do with how good the other doctor actually is. So I don't trust recommendations from other doctors either.

I don't know what to do.

There's a website some doctors are on called https://www.zocdoc.com/ You can search by zipcode and specialty, and you can read the doctors' qualifications and reviews (there seems to be a lot of reviews on there). I find reading the qualifications of doctors to be helpful. It also says what they specialize in, so you can try to find one that knows more about AS or any other issues you have. Also, make sure whoever you go to is board certified. When I was looking for a psychiatrist I was surprised how many I found were not board certified. You may also want to see if there is a mental health center center or outpatient center at a hospital with multiple psychiatrists so you can easily switch if you don't like the first one you see. Good luck!

I would agree, but www.cchr.org is run by the Scientologists, the group founded by L. Ron Hubbard, so take that video with a grain of salt.

If a psychiatrist or a psychologist tried to manipulate you, you should report then to your state's medical licensing board.

So sorry to hear that namaste. They are not all like that, I've had very good experiences with them.
