Auditory hallucinations, issues with sensory integration and
I have a question for you guys... I know that a lot of us Aspies and others with an ASD have unusual sensory processing, especially with sound. I have tinnitus, the typical ringing and buzzing in the ears, often brought on by sensory overload. I also have experienced a number of more peculiar auditory perceptions- including hearing music that isn't playing externally and hearing repeated sounds such as the sound of loud equipment (I used to work in a warehouse) in the case of the latter it sounds like I am still in the warehouse with the loud equipment running.
I wonder if this is a common problem for other people who have an ASD, or if it is more indicative of psychosis. The only thing reason I don't suspect schizophrenia in this case is the unusual perceptions are limited to examples like the aforementioned experiences. I don't have any of the paranoia, or "hearing voices" typically associated with schizophrenia.
Do any of you guys have a experience like this to share?
Do you think audibly? I think audibly and one time I explained to someone between my OCD, with obtrusive thoughts that I audibly hear, and was told that's a hallucination. I disagreed with this because for it to be a hallucination, I would have to be disoriented and not know that it was just an obtrusive thought I could hear. It didn't go over very well. I can be thinking in pictures of something while thinking something else audibly and then have a song, or as you understand; Tinnitus ringing through all at once. I would be more concerned if you heard an unfamiliar disembodied voice commanding you and you couldn't discern it from a thought as opposed to "God". From my understanding, the sufferer of hallucinations is also delusional, so they would not know/understand audible thought or noise from hallucinations. I hope I am helpful here.
I hear music that comes from random sounds sometimes. I thought I was crazy but a doctor said its just like you were saying how we sort out our senses and can be brought on even by allergies. And that does not mean you are crazy at all because its real and neurological. I dont experience it very often but when I do its the best music I have ever heard. Alot of the greatest musicians of all time had this same experience. I wish I had time to make music. Its the same with visual hallucinations, they usually explain things the common mind never could in the same way the music can be a huge orchestra and perfect song made up in seconds.

I used to hear music sometimes & hear talking when people weren't. I told my psych about this & it's one of the reason she kept me on an antipsychotic. They didn't help thou & I still occasionally mishear things
