Pyromania and autism

I have an obsession with fire. I'm wondering if pyromania is tied with aspergers syndrome. I play with fire at home as well as my church. I have been hearing that people with autism fixate on certain subjects such as fire, is this true. I also want to know if my object of obsession with fire can be used in a positive way possibly even get a job.

My 1st girlfriend was a pyro & even had pyro at the begging of her SN. She wasn't on the spectrum but she did have dyslexia, sever ADHD, & alittle OCD. I was into it alittle but not too much. Are you into fireworks any? If so you might could look into getting a job doing pyrotechnics for events & films but you'd probably need some kind of training for that.

My brother has Aspergers or Autism and he seems to have an obsession with fire as well. He likes to burn things. I'm not sure why, he just does. I don't, though, but I do like to watch it happen. I think I remember when my grandparents used to have a proper fireplace, I liked watching paper and stuff burn on that.

When I first suspected that I had AS, I went to my GP for a referral.

He said, "You can't have Asperger's Syndrome. You don't wet the bed, torture small animals, or play with fire ... do you?" Then he gave me a smirk that implied how low his opinion of me was for even asking the question. I now have a new GP.

The first psychologist I spoke to denied any connection between pyromania and Asperger's Syndrome (or Autism in general). The three-member committee that confirmed the original diagnosis less than a year later also confirmed the lack of a causal connection between ASDs and pyromania.

So let's put this nonsense to rest, unless you all want to be rounded up and questioned as a "usual suspect" the next time someone's home or business burns down under suspicious circumstances.

I'm obsessed with fire.
I love to watch things burn.
It's fascinating in the same way as watching wheels spin, but more exciting because it's not as regular.
Being a fire-twirler would be an interesting occupation.
Or a fireman.
Rural firemen here do controlled burns to avoid future bushfires.
Cane farmers get to light up their fields in spectacular fashion every year.
It would be good to put the obsession to good use.
Just because you love fire, it doesn't make you an arsonist.
