Greetings. So before I was diagnosed with ASD, I thought I had AD/HD - PI. Then once I was diagnosed with ASD and a LD, I thought that was the cause of my AD/HD symptoms. But now, I am looking at the criteria for AD/HD and it seems I have met the criteria. Like, the criteria described in the DSM-V is met by even looking at my assessment. I will carefully look at my assessment again, but I see the symptoms of AD/HD - PI are just described under the learning disability. Basically, my learning disability is EFD + fine motor control issues, since it isn't based off the DSM-V criteria, but the Ontario Learning Disability Association. Here is the criteria for AD/HD - PI (*note* bold is the one I meet):

Quote:
a. often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or during other activities (e.g. overlooks or misses details, work is inaccurate)
b. often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities (e.g., has difficulty remaining focused during lectures, conversations, or lengthy reading).
c. often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly (e.g., mind seems elsewhere, even in the absence of any obvious distraction).
d. often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish school work, chores, or duties in the work place (e.g., starts tasks but quickly loses focus and is easily sidetracked).
e. often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities (e.g., difficulty managing sequential tasks; difficulty keeping materials and belongings in order; messy, disorganized work; has poor time management; fails to meet deadlines).
f. often avoids or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (e.g. schoolwork or homework; for older adolescents and adults, preparing reports, completing forms, reviewing lengthy papers).
g. often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., school materials, pencils, books, tools, wallets, keys, paperwork, eyeglasses, mobile telephones).
h. is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli (e.g., for older adolescents and adults may include unrelated thoughts).
i. is often forgetful in daily activities (e.g., doing chores, running errands; for older adolescents and adults, returning calls, paying bills, keeping appointments).

My assessment says I have working memory deficits, which relates to a, d, g, and i.
A: I make careless mistakes because I randomly forget the rules of the task at hand
D: I don't follow through on instructions because I forget them if too many are stated
G: I lose things necessary for task because I forget where I place things, especially my cell phone
I: I am forgetful because memory deficits

Just working memory deficits alone covers 2/3 of the criteria needed. Part c may just be related to autism because I find conversations (most of the time) dull or I am thinking of my obsessive interest instead of the conversation because I find it more interesting. Part f because I have self-monitoring issues, and if I find something hard, I can get extremely frustrated at it. Also because if it doesn't have some order to it and I have to figure it out myself I get frustrated. With projects, a lot of the time I don't know where to start because of cognitive flexibility issues. I have trouble trying to think of a solution if it is abstract. So I will avoid the task. I am going to make my own investigation further, possibly emailing the psychologist who diagnosed me with ASD and a LD.

But my main question over all of this: what's the difference between AD/HD - PI and an executive function deficit or disorder (EFD)? Every reading the DSM-V right here, it says that people with AD/HD may have problems in attention, memory, and executive functions. I had problem in memory and executive functions. Not attention, though; I partially blame this on my intense interest in mental illness/psychology when I got my assessment. I was too excited to get the assessment that I wasn't inattentive or anything.

The only thing I'm not sure about is if these presented before age 12. I don't remember much before age 12. I can look at my report card of around age 12, since I have it. But I have problems with it outside of school, which apparently is the difference between AD/HD and a LD.

I do have difficulties with part a, e, and h, but have no proof for this. All the other criteria I have proof in my assessment.

I also know no one can diagnose me, but wondering if I should look into AD/HD as a possibility, since I have the six characteristics, and, impairs me in my daily life (work, home, school)?

Thanks for any help :D

PS If you need to see the criteria for my LD, just tell me, and I'll post a link and/or quote of it. It took me a very long time to find it.

*Note for poll* I didn't put none as an option because I was already diagnosed with a LD, and I believe it's true, so I can't have none. But if you do think I have none, please explain why below.
