In 2017, I was diagnosed as bipolar and given meds for it, but since then, I've found that no matter how clean I am, I'm suffering a weird body odor that makes me stink like rotting cabbage.

Is this a coincidence and I've got some other undiagnosed medical condition or is this a common side effect of bipolar meds?

My Aspergers Syndrome diagnosis means I already struggle socially with my peers without me suffering from smelling bad because of meds I need and my problems with my meds in this way means I have zero confidence in socializing with anyone.

What medicine do you take?
I have Bipolar 1 and I take Latuda, Lamictal, Zoloft, Buspar and Trazadone and I never had a problem like that...

Do you sweat easily or a lot OP :?: I've heard of some psych meds making some people sweat more. I forget which meds thou. A lot of those meds can potentially make people tire more easily so perhaps that might be why some people may sweat more & sweating more could make your body order worse. I don't remember hearing anything about psych meds & body odor thou. It may help if readers know which meds your on. If your taking meds for other reasons, there's a chance those could be having an affect on BO as well. You might could try changing a med one at a time to determine if it is due to a specific med but you should discuss it with your doc/psych 1st.

I used to sweat a lot anyway as a child before I even started taking the meds, but I've only started smelling like rotting cabbage after I started on the meds.

If this were happening to me, I’d be bathing both morning and night, using a very good 48hr-type sports deodorant + a good eau de toilette. I’ve heard of Fish Oil tablets permeating the skin through the pores and causing similar, but the following is also something to keep in mind. I’m not saying you’re delusional in this instance, but be aware that this can certainly occur in some with Bipolar ...

Does any other person notice your “scent”?

Maybe you’re your “own worst enemy,” and notice things in yourself that others don’t notice.

There are times when I think I smell like a bum—while others only notice my aftershave.

I thought of another possible theory. Some psych meds can possibly have an affect on hormones. Some antipsychotics are known for causing breast growth in teens & adult men. I would guess that is due to hormone affects. Teens & kids are known for having bad BO when they start going through puberty. If your on an antipsychtic(they're a main treatment for bipolar disorder) do some research to see if it can affect hormones & if it can, ask your psych or doc about switching it.

the smell of a persons body odour can often be determined by the persons diet.

If you are prone to eating lots of spicy red meat, spiced fish, garlic etc.
This will come out in your sweat (and in some cases, breath and farts).

I am vegetarian, and have been for a long time. I generally don't have super strong body odour
i do shower daily, some times several times a day (if doing sports).

I have found that my body odour and even farts smell of what i eat.
I also found that my urine has a smell of the food that I have eaten the same day, when i eat
stronger tasting foods (but not to the extent of making my sweat smell strong).

When i eat a lot of fruit, my farts sometimes smell of fruit cocktail... lol not kidding.
Although please don't get me wrong, i am not one of those people with a kink for smelling peoples farts.
But in reality it really is hard not to smell your own farts sometimes.

I recommend to try a diet change and drink loads of water, as the water will likely water down the scent.
I don't know, but i imagine that being dehydrated will make a persons scent smell stronger, as this is what happens
to a persons urine when they are dehydrated. It starts to smell bad. Bad sign...

I can smell the rotting cabbage smell on all the clothes I wear until they've been washed then they smell like rotting cabbage again after I've worn them.

When I go to the local mosque for a prayer session, when we are all stood together, some of those nearest to me wrinkle their noses at me, but no one ever says anything to me about it, and as we leave afterwards, on more than one occasion, I've heard one or two people whisper to each other they can smell me.
