I decided to be open to someone I know. I think it was a mistake. I told them that I take antipsychotic medication.

I told them why I take medication. I feel like I did the wrong thing. They told me it was ok but I feel like they wish I hadn't told them.

I mean I am not a psycic so I have no idea what that person thought, but maybe they just were accepting it and didn't want to say anything to pass judgement. I mean Idk I have met a few schizophrenic people and the ones I have met they are either taking medications or just self medicating with weed, my one aunt swears by it...she for sure thinks if she took the pills instead of smoking pot to defeat the 'voices' she would be all drugged out and not able to do anything. But she likes to do things and she finds that the pot quiets the voices she hears and I am all for it, if the pills make her feel icky and the weed kills the voices and lets her get on with her life like why not?

Aside from that though I don't think you did anything wrong, if they are cold towards that than they probably were not a really good friend, because I figure friends are supposed to care about each other especially if one is feeling down. I mean sure I think that but I mean I have never really had friends so well I don't have any good advice on that.

I've made that mistake before. Too many people will be caught up on the name to even bother to listen to what it's been prescribed for or other details.

I got prescribed an anti-psycotic for anxiety!?.....I remember taking the pill they gave and then thinking it made me feel weird, so I looked up the specific name of the drug in the ingredients and found it was an anti-psycotic. I went for anxiety medicine and they gave me a freaking anti-psycotic pill. And that stuff was terrible, but like good god they will prescribe anything for anxiety these days.

But yeah that stuff was so gross...like I can see why schizophrenic people and people with other psycosis issues would seek to stop taking that crap and find any other alternative possible, like for sure anti-psychotics feel gross. Like it is hard to explain but there is just this kinda like nasty feeling they cause....so certainly feels like something that should only be used as a last resort kinda drug....not a long term treatment.

When they're used for bipolar, anxiety or for irritability associated with autism it's typically a much smaller dose than when prescribed for psychotic symptoms. It's a really common usage, but it is still off-label.

That was my experience too though, I was left pretty f****d up from the medication with no real appreciable benefits. I also gained a f**kton of weight. It makes me wonder how bad they are for their intended purpose at the intended dosage.

Yeah but even on that smaller dose it was making me feel really f***d up, like sure if it had seemed to help I probably would have just accepted it being an ok mental health drug. But the problem was is everytime they got me on one of these new drugs to help with this or that it didn't. Seems like for a lot I get more side effects than like the intended effects of the drug. I might just be one of those weirdos that just doesn't respond well to most psych meds, cause yeah repeatedly I kept just getting bad effects. I got welbutrin at one point and I broke two weed pipes on that becasue I couldn't coordinate myself properly cause like when I was just standing seemed the rest of the world was just moving in front of me and I couldn't keep up. When I went to the doctor and told them I was having like the effect of feeling like I was in one place but everything else moving they immeditly said that was an unintended effect and recommended I take no more of that drug. But they also seemed kinda freaked out about it, like maybe I was not supposed to get that effect from the drug so they were like wondering why it happened maybe. I just do remember they seemed weirded out when I told them that particular effect it was having.

I smoke weed as well. It seems to really help for some reason. The medication I am on makes me feel sleepy and somewhat anxious at the same time. Yeah, it was a friend of my sister. I dont have any friends currently. Now I feel like everything is awkward.

I had some rather judgmental and unsupportive responses when I mentioned that I was on medication 25 years ago - and that was an anti-depressant. I have been more circumspect since.

My wife has BPD and Bipolar Disorder and is on a cocktail of antipsychotic and mood stabilising medication - she rarely mentions it to anyone which I think is best.
