You know the stuff. Britney circa 'Baby One More Time', Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Spice Girls, Will Smith, TLC, Destiny's Child, Hilary Duff, NSYNC, BoyzIIMen, Kelly Clarkson, all that blissfully blithely innocent marvelous starstuff floating about on the Top 40 radio.

Nowadays, more and more people start turning to rock, rap and R&B. While I can enjoy R&B and rap/rock, it's just that I feel that few listening to the classic teen stuff anymore. You know. The immortal songs to which we danced at junior prom and sang along in the locker room.

Kids are now going straight from Disney to Jay Z or Metallica. What about the in-between, the teen stages with sweet boy/girl tunes? Heck, even Hilary Duff is going hard rock with her new song 'Girl Can Rock'. It isn't to say that nobody *likes* pop anymore- American Idol has viewers- but that its golden age is over. I have to catch Japanese MTV on the International Channel to try to get pure pop. But even that's changing, with Utada getting sluttier on her new album and more rap/rock going around.

We are the veterans, the true immortals, the bears of the ancient memory of great Teen Pop. Who's with me?

I like pop music, too. It's really cool and innocent compared to this rap song called "Tipsy" that is not cool or innocent in my opinion. (Cue flashback to a time when Mich overheard some girls saying the chorus from there and Mich stating that "tipsy" means "drunk" and that the song isn't so good after all.) But you know NTs, always gloing with what other NTs are doing. Peer pressure.

:!: Mich :?:

I hear ya...brings me back to the good ol' days when every inch of my walls were covered in Hanson posters. I made a couple of CD's full of the old pop classics that I turn up and dance around to whenever I start taking myself too seriously. It was just good, wholesome, innocent fun sans the drama, violence, etc. But what I really love are those classic teen pop films from the 80's and 90's....

I can't respect a band that doesn't create thier own music. They are the purest form of pawns to the capitalistic music recording buisness. It disgusts me, as does their music (though if they did music well, I guess I woudln't mind so much).

A poser of a real musicion.

I used to love bands like Hanson, backstreet boys, when I was 12 or so. Even then I preferred rock and stuff. Although I have to admit I enjoy 98 degrees and Savage Garden from time to time. I've never liked Britany Spears and I never cared much for Desitny's Child. The only reason I like Mandy Moore is because she voiced Aeris in yhe video game Kingdom Hearts

Hey I remember New Kids. I was prob 'bout four or five. Didn't see what was the hype was about. A few years ago a local radio station played a remix of" Everybody, backstreet back" with New Kids mixed in and it was better that the original!

when i was about 8 i was obsessed with the backstreet boys and hanson, i had hansons first album (middle of nowhere) and i would play that non-stop for hours on end, than it was affimation by savage garden.

at about 12 my older brother introduced me to nirvana and black sabbath and pantera and everything else got kinda swept into the background, but even today at 20 people can still catch me bursting into a chorus of "mmmmbop" by hanson and trying to get people to join in if the times right.

ok ok im probably posting on here too much but i really miss the 90's for real!! !
everything was soo easier the music was better the clothes were ugly but oh well techology is getting better why cant we go back to the days before myspace, when we listen to music in our portable cd players and not mp3 players and just go back to the days when times were happier playing outside until it was pitch black dark and not knowing what time it is i really miss that.
but aside from all the pop bands i liked.
the very first artists i got into was alanis morrisette & hootie and the blowfish man reminds me of being a carefree 4 or 5 year old again :(

I'm not sure I'd really call Britney Spears innocent, even in the 'Baby One More Time' era. :)

New Kids on the Block and Stock, Aitken and Waterman were more my sort of era. I never much liked that stuff though.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about much older stuff like the Archies or the Ronettes. They don't make 'em like that anymore!
(I would mention the Beatles, but I've never really liked them either.)
