I thought Les Mis and Phantom were technically considered operas. Oh well... semantics I guess.

Now question: Are we talking Broadway or does this even include movie musicals which have never seen the light of a stage?

Anywho, mine are (random order):
1. Guys and Dolls
2. Meet Me in St. Louis
3. Cabaret

with close runners-up:
4. West Side Story
5. Hello, Dolly
6. Robin and the Seven Hoods
7. Sweet Charity
8. Can-Can

One is a recent movie, with the characteristics of a musical, as well as two "classics"

- Fiddler on the Roof

- Into the Woods

- the movie would be "Bride & Prejudice"

Yes, I love that one, too. "If I were a rich man..." There's really just too many musicals to name.

Btw, alex, I can see you as playing a good Baby Jon. Did you have to dance?

Musicals are one of my obsessions. My entire family are big fans of musical theatre, and my dad worked professionally in the business as a cast member (played Bobby, Al, Paul, or a cut dancer, depending on the performance) in the Australian National Tour of A Chorus Line almost 30 years ago and as the stage manager on the US National Tour of Beauty and the Beast a few years ago.

As for what my favourite musicals are, I honestly can't just choose three. I go in cycles of what I listen to. These are just a few of the CDs of musicals that I have (I have a lot more, but I'm trying to do this from memory):

Spamalot
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Bombay Dreams
Les Mis
Miss Saigon
Evita
Jesus Christ Superstar
Joseph and the A.T.C.D.C.
Into the Woods
West Side Story
Chicago
Secret Garden
Wicked
Hairspray
Rent
Movin' Out
Little Shop of Horrors
Fiddler on the Roof
The Producers
Lion King
Beauty and the Beat
Aida
A Chorus Line

... and several Forbidden Broadway CDs

Also, on the 7th of February, I will add Billy Elliot the Musical to my collection! :D
