Does anyone recognise the sample from 0:12 to 0:30 of the following clip?

I remember at my sister's graduation ceremony there was an orchestra playing a medley, and they starting playing a tune I recognised from the song in the clip. I checked the programme to see what the music was, and I went away thinking it was by Edvard Grieg. I'm now pretty certain it wasn't! It sounds more like a piece of jazz music.

[The song in the clip is Stop This Crazy Thing by Coldcut, from one of the first albums I ever bought. Most of the samples - eg, the Tarzan wail and all that scratching - just sound annoying to me now after all these years.]

At first I thought it was a jazz version of "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite but as it went on I realized that it was closer to "Joshua Fought The Battle Of Jericho"

I know it but I don't know it- now I'm going to go crazy. :) -I'm pretty sure they used it for a commercial " Can't get enough of that...???"

it's "joshua fought the battle of jericho". you should have asked for negro-spiritual buffs

joshua fought the battle of jericho, jericho, jericho
joshua fought the battle of jericho and the walls came tumbling down

it was also in 'nothing serious, just buggin' by whistle, in 1985

Thanks guys

It indeed seems to be "Joshua fought the battle of Jericho".

I can see the similarities with "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" as well. Perhaps the medley I heard at the graduation ceremony featured one piece running into the other.

Aimless, I can't think which commercial it comes from. Perhaps it was one that wasn't shown in England.

I always thought it was funny how "Hall of the Mountain King" and "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" sound so much alike. The sample is clearly Joshua.

The commercial was, "Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp, Sugar Crisp, Sugar Crisp, an't get enough of that Sugar Crisp, it keeps me going strong" using the tune to Joshua. That was back when you could still call a cereal something with sugar in it. Now I guess it's Super Golden Crisp or something like that...Do they still call the character Sugar Bear or did they change that, too?
