I'm usually a bass player as well as playing snare drum in marching band, but lately I've been working on vocals in order to have basic understanding of it when I study music theory in college.

Really nice vocals, I like it.

Maybe you should do singing covers with a guitar or a piano, I much prefer it over a "karaoke". It's just my personal opinion though.

@puddingmouse

I have to agree, Jack should be famous but sadly today it's not about how good of a musician you are. It's about whether you're a commercial material or not. All those reality shows and whatnot.

Here was something I did 10 years ago using fruity loops, a couple of my own, AcidPro and a Tibetan Chant. 5 years ago, I put together with photos/quotes from my favorite gonzo journalist.

Not sure if it counts, since it's only a demo track I just started it this morning, but it's kind of worth noting, considering it actually sounds half-decent.

My new composition:

The sounds are some synth percussion sounds I programmed on the Synclavier using the FM synth. It was scored in Finale (which I rarely do anymore), and the sounds were sampled and played back inside Finale using the NI Reaktor plug. It's also my first Reaktor ensemble, a simple multi-timbral sampler. The reverb is a factory 'verb, called "Space Master," that came with Reaktor. I'm including the score for any of you academic types that might be interested. Comments and criticism welcome!

I really love producing sounds, but it sure f***s my mind if I do it for too long without breaks, which is the reason why it's just a once a month thing for me, I'm also really really slow at it compared to other people.

I love making my own sounds. It's a rarity for me to focus so much on percussion and FX, and usually I stick with analog or analog modeling (or physical modeling, but that's not much of a challenge). FM on a Synclavier is especially challenging because it is such a basic implementation of FM. With a little creativity and willingness to look in some less-than-obvious places for sound manipulation, you get a versatility that is often absent on so many current FM synths, both hardware and software.

The secret to making your own sounds quickly is to create templates, and lots of them. Program, say, a good saw pad, copy it several times, and just change the waveform on it. The less detail-oriented you are about it and the more you go for more "bread and butter" kinds of sounds, the faster you'll be able to come up with new stuff and the less of a headache it will be.

Luckily, my laptops battery goes out before I get to that point these days since my monitors are upstairs and the charger is downstairs (because upstairs is more sound-isolated and downstairs is more comfy and relaxing) and I'm too lazy to take the charger with me.
