Look at a performance by T Rex or an interview with Marc Bolan from early 1971 and compare it with one from the end of that year, when he'd been corrupted by commercialism and showbiz values, not to mention cocaine and brandy, and the difference is staggering. Nonetheless, the earlier Bolan was still occasionally visible, as in this performance on German TV in the autumn of 1971, where he eschews the daft 'glam' image, which he had adopted to an alarming degree by that time, and delivers a really solid, no-nonsense live version of 'Jeepster'.

And here's a very different performance of the same song three years later. Bolan is physically almost unrecognizable here as a result of drug abuse and alcoholism, but this version still has an impressive rawness and authenticity in my view. Sadly, I didn't rate most of the stuff he did after this time - whether that was due to the influence of his mistress Gloria Jones, as many allege, or just a self-propelled decline, but anyway....

I was always disappointed that Bolt Thrower changed their sound after they released Realm of Chaos.

I feel like these guys agree with me. :lol:
