nice stuff everyone!

@Mickalangelo: nice stuff (: Those diogourds rule!
Water mixable oils? Cool! unfortunately it'll be hard to find that stuff in here, I'm outside USA/Europe. Anyway I'll see if I can find something similar (:

And agreed, damn oil smell! gave me headaches, now I'm diving into acrylics, loving it! (:

Unfortunately, someone told me that if I want to sell paintings I'll have to use oil because more people want to buy it and I'll get more money for exactly the same painting. Stupid if you ask me. Acrylics are more durable anyway. (Okay, some layering techniques really require oil. But not the stuff I usually do.)
Honestly, that "someone" sounds like he/she doesn't know about paint. There are lots of artists in lots of techniques and mixed media, so try what works for you (:

That "someone" was from an art gallery. She basically said, yes, we can sell paintings in that style, but it will be easier and bring more money IF YOU DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING IN OIL. Apparently, customers around here still consider oil paintings to be more valuable since all the "classical" painters didn't have acrylics yet.

Well, add a couple of drops of oil and call it mixed media

then this talk will take place:
"Someone" - Nice painting, does it have oil?
Eller - Yes of course
"Someone" - Then let's sell this baby, yeahh!

Well, I'm surprised about this, did he/she said it in a honest way? Maybe the water oils could help you, or try the mixed media approach.
Good luck (:

Yes, I think she was honest about this. She said a lot of her customers are elderly people who don't know anything about art but are just looking for something nice to hang on their wall - and that these people often ask specifically for oil paintings. Mostly because it's the only kind of paint besides maybe watercolor they've ever heard of, and it's what they saw at the museum all the time anyway. Selling will apparently be easier if she doesn't have to explain to the customers what exactly that material is. It sounds plausible enough...
I still have oil colors somewhere, I'll have to use them up some time anyway... Oh well.

Thanks, Lemon.

This is a picture I finished earlier. Probably the best I've done so far.

Ok, so I just finished this piece, and I know its current name doesn't put the feeling the image alone does, so I am looking for people to help me rename it. To submit a naming sugestion, just post a comment on the deviantart page for this image of mine, and the one I feel fits it best will be its new name!
