"And So It Goes" by Jennifer Warnes - http://www.last.fm/music/Jennifer+Warne ... So+It+Goes
(written by Billy Joel.)

Sad & a bit hopeful at the same time - about completely opening yourself to a potential love - even though you know they are free to reject you.

Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime from The Korgies, the song was covered by Beck in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Nothing like Funeral Doom Metal for melancholy music.
Look up Abyssmal Sorrow, Forest of Shadows, Intaglio, or Skepticism.

You've got some fine taste in music mister...just sayin' :)

I'm just waking up and only on my first coffee, so my brain's not firing on all pistons yet, but off the top of my head, here's a few, of the many, I like:

Crying ~ Roy Orbison
Walking After Midnight ~ Patsy Cline (anything by her..really)
Cold, Cold Heart ~ Hank Williams Sr.
Between The Bars ~ Elliot Smith
Bird On The Wire ~ Leonard Cohen
Hurt ~ Nine Inch Nails
Georgia Lee ~ Tom Waits

I"m not a big industrial music fan, but I do like some NIN - not all of it. I find that Reznor can be hit or miss a lot. But, "Hurt" is a brilliant song. Johnny Cash's version is excellent too. NIN doing "Hurt" is nihilistic; viscerally and angrily painful, while Cash's is more sorrowful and lamenting.

For some reason, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" makes me want to cry.
