If It's Jazz - Post It !
^^ Oh myyyy.... you are in for a treat: here is a Grappelli sampler.

(^^ this was written by Django Reinhardt, who was a member of the Quintette du Hot Club.
Edit in: Grappelli's cadenza ad. lib. at the end will knock your socks across the room.)

(Stephane and Django, with the Quintette)

Django was Gypsy, and started something called "gypsy swing"... I'd say his heir is Bireli Lagrene, and here is Bireli (also Gypsy) doing Nuages.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91lXL_VpqKY
(and I stumbled across this version, with JULIAN BREAM for the love of Pete, JULIAN BREAM!
but I'll just put the link here - enough videos of Nuages, already. It is, however, gorgeous.)

(and now I'll be invisible for however long it takes me to listen to all the good stuff from you, Alexanderplatz, High Llama and b9.)

^^ My absolute favorite David Grisman album is "Quintet '80", which came out in, you guessed it, 1980. A few weeks ago I went looking for "Naima", his version of Coltrane's ballad, from it; only found a live version. Today, I found all the tracks from the album. So here they are, in the proper sequence. I'm putting these up only as links, so I don't clog the thread with them, but this way you can enjoy the full album at your leisure.
Dawgma is the first piece you heard in the post above.
David Grisman Quintet 80 album, tracks in the order in which they appear on the CD, with titles:

Been gorging myself with music today... Kelby, this is a great thread. This piece with Gal Costa is just breathtaking, I love Jobim. With cello yet!
Llama, thanks for posting Dark Star, you're right, it's jazz. (Side note: I hadn't known this: apparently David Grisman and Jerry Garcia were friends from young adulthood!)
b9... wow, post more! I bookmarked you. These are great!
(Edit in: won't be online tonight, must catch up on sleep if I can. Best to all.)

yeah i am only a backing pianist at best in rehearsals.
i am not a performer.
i like to add to songs i listen to through the headphones as if i was a backing musician.
but if i make my own songs up, i am i bit more bold.
i hope you can not see all of the stuff i have on clyp it. some is s**t first drafts.
but here is a backing track that i composed to a doobie brother's song.
it is only a backing track.
not record quality.

Good morning b9. No worries, I didn't rummage around on Clyp, it felt weird even to think about it - I thought it would be really impolite, actually, if it was even possible. Like snooping around in your house. Rather listen to the things you feel are ready to share.
Do not put yourself down for being "just" a sideman, you know dang well that Lee Ritenour was hugely in demand as a sideman, so is Jeff Lorber still. It's a lot less nerve wracking, from what I understand... I'm way too fumblefingered to reach professional calibre myself and am impressed by those who can.
And now I'll listen to your latest
Edit in: oh my. I've had (that particular song) playing in the back of my mind for days. Thank you for posting this I enjoyed the heck out of it. Also, you have got some serious speed on you. Yow.

here is a brief 5 minute video about "matt savage" who is an autistic savant.
this is a preamble to the next clip.
what innate brilliance.
and now he is about 15-16, he is shown next performing without voice overs and documentary style snippets (which annoyed me in the last clip).
i may be gifted somewhat, but he is a genius.
if you hear a gifted person next to a genius, it is then clear that genius in inherent. it is like god given.
this is his own incredible composition.
well i like to try to expand my instrumentality somewhat because i am not co-operative enough to ever be in a band.
it does not matter.
stuff i write is aimless really but well decorated anyway.
this could be mixed better by bringing up the levels of the hammond and putting the whole lot through a compander.

here is a breakdown of how i write stuff.
i just explore singular lines of melody with reference to others in my head, and eventually i meld them.
i have the idea from the beginning, but how do you go about it?
i do not post all of every practice idea.

Good morning b9, this is incredible! I'm listening to the Power Pop video right now, before I get ready to run some errands. I'll be back in a bit and go through your expository post - looking forward to it very much.

Thanks so much, EW, for posting the additional links so that I could listen to the entire album. You are something else. Have a wonderful weekend.
