About this song. I remember it from the scene in 'Space jam' where the Bulls team members are going through testing and coping with their lost skill; I find it cool how Barry White contributed to what's arguably a novelty song on a soundtrack for a children's movie but the interjections by Chris Rock, even by early 90's Chris Rock -- =_= would it get a pass today?.
I mean goodness knows how he made a career out of black identity during the apparent anomic zeitgeist of the 90's --some of the stuff he says like the "Barry, you want some chicken?", just comes off as annoying and something even Kevin Hart is (usually) beyond that.
Barry has a smooth voice but I'm aware of how the 'Basketball Jones' song was used in a 70's Cheech and Chong song with some problematically character designed black ppl.
With a few edits it can pass for a typical R&B style song and you wouldn't be able to really tell it's from the soundtrack for the first 'Rugrats' movie.
Goodness knows how I appreciate a song about the misadventures of babies not being inappropriate while being made by ppl who would otherwise typically working on something more 'hard-edged'.

I try to bring newness, vitality to this place b/c here I have 'felt things out' and feel that express myself is far less prone to the same kind of judgement the neuronormatives dole out.
