Has anyone under the age of 35 ever heard, or even HEARD OF "My Ding-A-Ling?"
Those of us who are old enough to remember would rather forget it.
We would rather remember and hear Elvis and other good music.

And now you've put it in my head (because I'm >35).

My ding-a-ling
My ding-a-ling
I want to play with my ding-a-ling
Two silver bells hanging on a string
I want to play with my ding-a-ling

I was in elementary school when this was a hot hit and we were the right demographic. We had just become old enough to understand the double entendre and so that song was LOVED in school. Because it was our introduction to double entendres. I bought the single along with everyone else I knew.

And perhaps that is still what's happening. Kids with allowances to burn are flocking to the terrible stuff because it appeals to them as it has always done. I am partly responsible for "My Ding-a-ling" becoming a hit. Today's generation is responsible for American Idol. And adults in either time mature into niche music, of which there is more now than there has ever been.

Then again, it's not just the kids' fault. Our grandparents' generation made "Yes We Have No Bananas" a hit.
