That I can think of at the moment...

Vocalise-Rachmaninoff
Black Thumb-Lori Carson (actually, just about anything off her albums Everything I Touch Runs Wild and Where It Goes)
In Spite of Me-Morphine (and most of the other songs from Cure For Pain)
Just about anything by The Smiths, Morrissey, or Joy Division

This may be kind of weird, but I often find happy love songs to be mildly depression-inducing.

I also really like the music from the Cymbalta ads.

Here's my list:

1: "Anything Can Happen" by composer Marcus Miller (the theme song to the 1997 basketball dramedy "The 6th Man". This song never ceases to make me cry, and it's very hard to get me to cry.)

2: "What If" by 112 (the lead singer, Marvin "Slim" Scandric, as he sings about how he has drastically messed up his relationship with his girl and voices his regrets, you can hear the increasing pain in his voice. For an R&B song, this was the most emotional one I've heard in a long time.

3: "Toy Soldiers" by Martika (great anti-drug song coming from the heart of the Drug Wars era, this came out around 1988)

4: "She's Out Of My Life" by Michael Jackson (Nuff said. Very emotional song, circa 1979.) R.I.P. Michael Joseph Jackson

I'm feeling a bit melancholy right now, so I thought I'd post some more.

Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vFaoA7t2RE

The song is soooo spacey, desolate, plaintive, yet beautiful as well. When I'm in a certain frame of mind the weird vocal effects at the end of the song make me feel close to tears.

I prefer a kind of cold distant melancholy to the more sentimental sadness that a lot of pop music tries to create. Stuff that brings to mind images of dilapidated buildings, windswept snow, and lonely bedraggled wanderers.
