I think that Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins has the most beautiful female voice, and Antony Hegarty has the most beautiful male voice.

Tom Waits

I asked my dad what he though about Waits and he said he and Bob Dylan should get together and from a super group called "S****Y Singers, Good Songs"

Tom Waits is probably my favorite too. My tastes in singers can be summed up as "ugly old guys who can't sing". They include:

Tom Waits
Bob Dylan
Leonard Cohen
Townes Van Zandt
Mississippi John Hurt
David Johansen
Blind Willie Johnson
Baby Gramps
Lou Reed
Neil Young

And the odd one out is Joanna Newsom

LOL, I love this.

I had a friend whose dad swore Dylan was the greatest singer ever because of the emotion in his voice. I thought, "What?!"

I tried to edit my first post in the topic to elaborate on this, but apparently the post is too old, so here goes.

My favorite singer is Adam Lambert, for a number of reasons; besides his phenomenal range and technical skill - he was rated the second most technically skilled rock vocalist and most skilled male rock vocalist of all time by DDD Music Forums - his voice is just beautiful. Besides that, his music is mostly fine for kids, while being perfectly fine for adults to enjoy too; in fact, my mom and I both are huge fans. His sexier songs, though few, are done with class (for example, a kid would only know what "For Your Entertainment" was about if they already knew what sadomasochism was) and those that aren't sexual are very positive ("If I Had You" is about how money, fame, etc. mean nothing if you don't have someone you love to share them with). Most of all, from what I've seen of him - interviews and his banter with the audience at his Cleveland concert a couple weeks back (and yes, he's even better live than on the CD) - he's just a genuinely laid-back, happy person, always looking at the bright side of things. He doesn't even let all the crap he gets for being gay affect him (in response to the Westboro baptist Church, he said they were entitled to their opinion and added, "They like to put on their signs, 'God Hates F*gs.' But I think God hates hate more.").

Morrissey, definitely. As solo artists I also like Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday though.
