the "portsmith symphonia" did a rather strange album called "the portsmith symphonia plays the classics" - only thing, the "plays" should have been "slays" as they totally butchered various old classical warhorses such as "also sprach zarathustra" [2001- a space odysee theme]. their playing made me think they were all drunk or stoned or addled in some mysterious way.
just the same, the album was funny as hell.

How did I forget to mention Bare Naked Ladies & The Flaming Lips :? I also forgot to mention "Weird Al" Yankovic. He even calls himself weird so you cant get much weirder than that :o

I can put a list of weird bands that I like but The Residents is by far the weirdest of all:

Warning: don't watch it while you're high on something.
Contain scenes of a fat naked guy falling from the sky.

enjoy.

No offence.

That's a hell of a broad range of music you're quantifying over, but here's some of the more unconventional out there that I love (with some of my favourite albums in brackets):

Derek Bailey (Aida, Guitar, Drums 'n' Bass, Saisoro)
Captain Beefheart - no list of weird music would be completely without the wonderful Trout Mask Replica.
Gabby La La (Be Careful What You Wish For...)
Jandek (Foreign Keys, I Woke Up, Manhattan Tuesday)
Harry Partch - Delusion of the Fury is the definitive album from this guy, but everything he's done is extremely unconventional.
M'lumbo - only heard Sacrifices to the Neon Gods; it's worth checking out.
Snakefinger (Greener Postures, Manual of Errors)
Sun Ra - I suppose free jazz in general could be listed here, but Ra was particularly good, and particularly weird (The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, Volume 2, The Magic City, Strange Celestial Road
The Residents (Demons Dance Alone, God in Three Persons, The Ughs!)
Tiny Tim (I Love Me, Tiny Tim's Christmas Album)
Won James Won (Theorist Attack)
Frank Zappa - particularly Jazz from Hell and Civilization Phaze III, the latter of which is my favourite album ever.
John Zorn (50th Birthday Celebration Volume Nine: The Classic Guide to Strategy, Naked City)

It's a pity he's released so few albums. Has Been is one of my favourite albums ever.

Tenacious D (needs no introduction) :)
Van Canto (they play only with drums and the voice)
