I don't really care for rap, but he is a great lyricist. He can freestyle well, too.

Does Eminem have an identity crises :?: He calls himself Eminem but he refers to himself as Slim Shady in his songs & he says his name's Marshal Mathers. It's extremely confusing :? Eminem is good but I prefer M&M`s

I secretly wonder if he has AS traits because I relate to a lot of his songs, not the sexual ones but all the ones about frustration and lashing out at bullies. I like a of his songs about anger because I feel so much anger at people almost 99.9% of the time. If Emimen rapped about sex or happy stuff I doubt I would like him. My dad once told me that cursing sometimes is the only way to get out your true feelings and Ememin's potty mouth is an example.

He raps as 3 people on the majority of his albums:

Eminem: His true rapper-self.
Slim Shady: His manic, degenerate alter-ego.
Marshall Mathers: His true self outside of the music & fame etc.

The Slim Shady LP: Clue is in the title, he mainly raps as his alter ego Slim Shady. A couple of tracks, he just raps as himself like "If I Had".
The Marshall Mathers LP: Again, clue is in the title, and he mainly raps about himself.
The Eminem Show: Mainly raps as Eminem and Marshall, bitching about how cruel fame is.
Encore: Mainly Slim Shady on this one, which is why IMO, it doesn't work that well.
Relapse: A scatter of all kinds of himself. But Slim on this one is OTT, Marshall is depressed, and Eminem hates Mariah Carey.
Recovery: All Eminem on this one. No maniac, Slim Shady, yet he doesn't rap deep enough for Marshall Mathers.

It's confusing I know but I hoped that helped.

That makes some sense. I never really thought about it like that. He has 3 personalities :o

I related to him on the bullying but I never thought about him having AS. I thought his problems wer cuz of his mom, his dad, drugs, girlfriend, fame, being a white guy growing up in a black neighborhood ect. It sounds like he had to deal with a lot of bull from all that & rapping was his way of coping. That's probably why I liked him better when I was in high-school because I wasn't dealing with bullies after

How can I say stuff about an artist, that I know nothing about, yet?

The Slim Shady LP is very good and The Marshall Mathers LP is a great, great album. Part of that has to do with his originality as a lyricist, but also his edginess and willingness to experiment on songs like "Guilty Conscience" and "Kim" which is between song and sheer performance art.

After that, and especially after 2002 or so, he's still somewhat recognisably the same artist, but his music just doesn't mean anything to me. His latest album is not as basely puerile as he's been known for lately, but it's quite mundane and sounds like something many people would have come up with, even if the lyrical subject matter is a bit different.

So, overall my impressions are mixed, but he always has a place in my memories and my collection.

I believe that eminem have ASS (PDD NOS maybe). When he hear music as a little child, he make the same movements as someone with ASS (with his upper body from <- to ->). And in "all access europe", interviews, and new footages, is see hem living in his own world, stroggle with communication problems (bodylanguage, the things that he says) and make fun about it. And he say that he probaly have ODD, and hes mother say that he is manic depressed.

Mixed bag. Great wordsmith, can say what's on his mind in epic detail. Downside - you have a lot of punks out there thinking they're like him in the wrong ways. Then again I've historically been a bit Mobb Deep fan and I can guarantee they had tons of a***holes running round using their Shook Ones lyrics so its hard to call whether I'd really hold out people's 'use' of the mentality in his lyrics as a caveat anymore than I'd think less of any band or musician for their fan base.

This article I read recently highlighted something interesting about Eminem... He goes through the same cycle of "I have problems" then "I'm fixing those problems" over and over again. It's basically what his career is based on.
