I agree. I like melancholy music, but I wouldn't really want to listen to something that's going to make me feel "depressed".

I am kind of different here. The songs that tend to makes me most depressed are "serious" rock songs containing imagery about "outsiders" escaping their surroundings and living as rootless nomads. Stuff like Bat Out of Hell, Born to Run, Motorcycle Emptiness (nice guitar solo though).
I guess as an aspie (and therefore an outsider) I should identify with that sort of stuff, but for some reason I don't.
I never found The Doors that depressing. They were too eccentric I suppose. I used to like The Smiths, but I found them more melancholy.
I could never work out what the hell Joy Division songs were supposed to be about.
