That was sexist! :x

First she implied that women are weak by taking like 3 f***ing minutes to open a f***ing can of sh**.

Then she implied that women were anorexic by smearing that poopy looking sh** on her knockers but not eating any of it. 2 girls 1 cup was also sexist because it implied women are bulimic but it had more artistic merit than this.

Then she implied that women are attention whores by sticking her hand in her pants and peeing in front of an audience.

What a sexist b***h. Feminists should be offended. Her art indicates that she wants all women to go back to the kitchen.
Perhaps (taking a shot in the dark here) that was part of the point, but she didn't really seem to glorify those implications - maybe, trying to get the point across that those sexist implications are stupid?

But then again, due to how it really invited negative reactions, how could it make a point anyways...

I still don't know. >.< Maybe again I'm analyzing too much.

I watched a minute before I quit from boredom. Glad I quit.

Her 'performance' failed to speak to me on any level, but it did appear to challenge her audience in a variety of ways.

Is this art?

I believe so.

I have never in my life seen someone struggle so much with a simple can opener.

My thought too. Maybe with the proceeds she could buy herself a new can opener. And some new clothes!

Then you've obviously never met me. All I can say is, I'm happy that my favorite brand of ravioli comes with lids that "pop" open...

Speaking of ravioli, I'm glad the lady in the video used Spaghettios instead of Chef Boyardee's, or I would never be able to eat ravioli again in my life.

I have a couple of questions about this video besides "is it art?":

1) What exactly was that dark stuff she smeared all over her shirt?
2) Was she peeing or was it Spagghettios coming out of her after she cut the hole in her pants?

While I'm no puritan wuss like some of the people here, I find the biggest problem is the lacking of an exposition to clearly state an intent as to what the piece is supposed to achieve. If it's merely an act of fetish and exhibitionism then it succeeds but the artwork itself is cheap. If it's supposed to be more than that, then the piece failed to explain its point beforehand. Judging by a couple reactions from the crowd, it would seem that it's little more than cheap fetish exhibitionism dressed up in more chic wording.

But then again, art is merely a matter of one's perception so who am I to say otherwise?

edit after a couple watches:

My personal take on it is that it's a pretty contrived half-baked idea of a performance piece. Is it art? Sure. Is it good art? That's a matter of taste but it just seems to me like a piece of shock art merely for the sake of doing something explicit rather than doing an effective job of conveying a solid idea. Everyone experiences frustration and most, if not all, women experience a sense of sexual exploitation. The performance isn't a very good extension of those feelings but rather a vague impressionist idea of those feelings without much solid symbolism.

Couple of hotties in the audience there.
Yeah, this is art but I don't care for this piece. Not too deep, not too great a performance. Looks like a freshman at whatever school it is. If you listen during the applause someone says ironically, "Yeah, art!" and someone (possibly the artist) replies "F___ you!" These are the sort of nervous, self-conscious reactions that would not follow a strong performance piece.

Are we discussing it? Then it's clearly art.

So the only way it wouldn't be considered art is if we all agreed not to talk about this ever again?

By reaching the agreement, the work has still provoked us to respond.

When a person's work is so banal that it passes by unnoticed, or merits no comment that it is not art.

Whether it has artistic merit is a different question.

Anything is art if you can convince someone that it is.

*SPOILER REVIEW*

I liked the tin opener bit, but the excrement smearing and spoken word part was lacking.
