I have some suggestions.

If you're looking for hard rocking bands, Sevendust is pretty great. They got lumped in with the nu metal movement a lot in the late '90s-early '00s, but they (with a select few other bands) actually had a pretty solid foundation in traditional metal.

Helmet is, I think, one of the most underrated hard rock bands to arise out of the whole early '90s scene. Their music is often described as "minimalist metal", very stripped down and raw, and unfortunately, they got overshadowed by many of their grunge and alt-rock contemporaries.

And finally, one of my latest personal favorites, Riverside. They're an awesome band from Poland that has been around for a little less than ten years. They're on the progressive side, with obvious influences from Tool and Dream Theater-- but don't let the prog element turn you away, because they rock hard. This is one of the songs off their latest album, Anno Domini High Definition, released two years ago.
