OK... So, a few people seem to be missing this little important part, I think:

you musicians out there

When I created this thread, I was directing the question towards those of you who play instruments or compose music, like I do, and meant it on a musical level; like how a music student might listen to music they want to become proficient in, and study it for its use of rhythm, harmony, melody, vocals, effects, and whatnot.

Basically, to put it more simply and directly, who inspires you to make the kind of music you make?

I am a musician, some of the tracks that I now make are based on the artists listed.

My Interest in music came about when I first heard a Bob-Marley / Lucky Dube / Alpha Blondy cassette mix-tape when I was 3 or 4. I also remember it being the first time dancing to a tune and the first time (that I can remember) someone spoke ill of my inability to keep step with the beat lol. I remember Spice girls, Alanis Morissette, and many other early 90's artists had a profound impact on me, and when I felt music really going down hill from 2003 onwards, I got into music to make tunes that I'd actually like. I'm still learning how to construct tunes, but here are some loops or "beats" I've worked on in the past:

That's my old music, when I was still learning ableton (I still am), but my newer stuff is largely just progressive house. I'll post specifics tomorrow before work.

*My cousin who played trombone professionally---inspired me to play trombone---I too became a professional.

*Jean Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley---inspired my interest in synthesizers back in the early 1970s.*

*An older friend of mine from church---inspired me to play dulcimers.

*John Lozier---inspired my style of harmonica playing.

*Musicians who have inspired my musical tastes:
Bert Kaempfert
Lawrence Welk
Ray Conniff
The Magic Organ---Jerry Smith
Ray Lynch
Synergy---Larry Fast
Kitaro
Ed Van Fleet
there are others---but these are the ones that came to mind

Thanks, I appreciate it. It is a work in progress - though music is a passion of mine, it has been largely sidelined recently but I will soon again. Do you make music electronically on your computer? This is the process I make my beats and the type of beats I'm hoping to learn to make:

This is currently the track I'm learning to construct(I didn't make this, but in a month or so, I should be able to):

Nadia Ali - "Rapture"( Avicii remix )

To Everyone:

For Fun, those who make music electronically on their computer want to construct a dance tune with me? It would be even better if several of us paired up and and colloborated on some tunes and then we can post them up on here and have competitions in which WP'ers vote for the WP dance track. Just a thought.
